Hypothermia is a potentially life-threatening condition that happens when body temperature gets very low. Older adults are at increased risk because of changes that come with aging that can make it harder for them to be aware of their body becoming too cold, the occurrence of certain chronic medical conditions that make it harder to stay warm, and prescriptions and over-the-counter medications that affect body heat. If someone is showing signs of hypothermia, call 9-1-1 right away.
