We were proud to see Greendale Physical Therapy mentioned in today’s Telegram & Gazette sports section. Sports writer Shaun Sutner shared his recovery journey after a surgically repaired hamstring tear—and his successful return to his passion: skiing.

“At Greendale, which I highly recommend, the physical therapists I worked with always used Miller’s rehab protocol as a guide. It set out specific phases, mostly delineated in two-week blocks. The work progressed from minimal stretching, weight, and force, and became progressively tougher as we continued. Within the protocol, the therapists had flexibility to modify the various exercises.”

That combination of evidence-based structure and individualized care is exactly what we strive for every day.

See you on the slopes, Shaun! ⛷️👏

Today, Aaronn Gu, PT, DPT led an in-service for our team at the Worcester Neurological, Balance, & Vestibular Clinic, demonstrating the use of the Insight PRO+ Infrared Video Goggles.

These goggles enhance patient care by allowing for more accurate assessment and treatment of vertigo, dizziness, and balance concerns, helping clinicians develop more precise and targeted treatment plans.

Ongoing education like this ensures our team continues to provide high-quality, evidence-based vestibular care. If you’re experiencing dizziness or balance issues, ask your therapist whether this technology may be part of your care.

Today, Dr. Celine Mende provided an in-service presentation to our Worcester–Main therapy team on Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training. BFR is an innovative treatment technique that helps patients safely build strength using lighter loads and higher repetitions, reducing strain on healing tissues. This makes it especially valuable for post-surgical and injury recovery, including ACL reconstructions, meniscus repairs, rotator cuff tears, tendinitis, and more.

If you’re currently in therapy and wondering whether BFR may be appropriate for your condition, ask your therapist—we’d be happy to discuss whether it’s right for you.

For more background information, here is a helpful resource from the APTA:

"5 things your PT wants you to do before you grab that shovel."
➡️The "Hinge, Don't Curve" Technique: Use your legs and glutes to power the movement. Bending at the waist puts excessive pressure on spinal discs, which are stiffer in the cold morning hours.
➡️ Avoid the "Lift and Twist": This is the most common cause of acute low-back injury. Always face the direction you are moving the snow and pivot your entire body rather than rotating your torso.
➡️Warm-Up Indoors: Cold muscles are less elastic and more prone to tears. Perform 3–5 minutes of light cardio like marching in place and dynamic stretches for your back, shoulders, and hips before heading out.
➡️Equipment Matters: Choose an ergonomic shovel with a curved handle or a second handgrip. These designs reduce the need to bend over, keeping your spine in a more neutral position.
➡️Pace Your Heart: Shoveling is a heavy cardiovascular workout. Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated to prevent overexertion and heart strain.

🎄💚 Our Green Friday celebration was a great reminder of how special this team is! We enjoyed delicious food, lots of laughs, festive sweaters, and time to connect with colleagues across clinics.

We also took time to recognize employee milestones, peer-nominated awards, and team achievements—always one of our favorite parts of the day.

So grateful for this incredible group and all they do for our patients and each other.
