Our UMass Memorial Transplant team showed up in a big way for Donate Life Blue & Green Day by standing together to honor donors, celebrate recipients, and raise awareness for the life-saving impact of organ donation. Every ribbon, every conversation, and every show of support helps move this mission forward.

This yearโ€™s Donate Life Flag Raising was extra special for UMass Memorial Healthโ€™s transplant program ๐Ÿ’š

For the first time, we held the ceremony at our University Campus, where all of our transplants take place, bringing the moment even closer to the patients, teams, and care that make it all possible.

We were also honored to have a new transplant recipient as well as living donor/recipient pair join us as special guests, a powerful reminder of the lives touched through organ donation.

Together, we celebrate hope, healing, and the gift of life.

๐Ÿ’š April is Donate Life Month ๐Ÿ’™

Today, April 1st, we kick things off by recognizing Living Donor Dayโ€”a day that honors the incredible individuals who choose to give the gift of life while they are still here to see the impact of that decision.

Living donors are more than heroes.
They are parents, siblings, friends, and even strangersโ€ฆ who made a choice that changed someoneโ€™s life forever.

Because of a living donor:
โ€ข Someone gets more time
โ€ข A family stays whole
โ€ข Hope becomes reality

If you or your loved one has been touched by living donation, we invite you to share your story in the comments or during your next visit. Your experience could inspire someone else to take that step.

To every living donorโ€”thank you!
Your generosity is seen, felt, and never forgotten.

๐Ÿ’š World Kidney Day ๐Ÿ’š

Today we celebrate the life-saving impact of kidney transplantation and living donation. For many people with kidney failure, a transplant offers a second chance at life with more freedom, better health, and more time with the people they love.

Living kidney donors make this possible. A healthy person can donate one kidney and continue to live a full, healthy life while giving someone else the incredible gift of renewed health.

On World Kidney Day, take a moment to learn about kidney health, talk with your family about organ donation, and celebrate the donors, recipients, and transplant teams who make these life-changing stories possible every day.

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day! ๐ŸŽ‰

For transplant patients, nutrition is more than a diet, itโ€™s part of the healing journey.

Our transplant dietitians work closely with patients before and after transplant to help them stay strong, recover well, and build healthy habits that support their new life after transplant. From managing complex nutrition needs to celebrating small milestones, they are an important part of the transplant care team.

๐Ÿ’™Today we thank our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists for the knowledge, compassion, and support they bring to our patients every day.๐Ÿค

Sharing this in support of an incredible act of generosity by Jesse Eisenberg.

As a well-known actor and director, he didnโ€™t have to make this public, but the fact that someone in the spotlight chose to become a living kidney donor for a stranger brings powerful visibility to living donation. That kind of awareness matters.

For our transplant community, stories like this spark important conversations and remind people that living donation is possible and lifesaving.๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

Actor and director Jesse Eisenberg quietly did something extraordinary this winter. In December, ๐ก๐ž ๐›๐ž๐œ๐š๐ฆ๐ž ๐š ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ค๐ข๐๐ง๐ž๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐š ๐ญ๐จ๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ. His reason was simple.

โ€œIt just seemed like an obvious thing to do.โ€

Of the 27,000 kidney transplants performed each year in the U.S., only a few hundred come from self-directed living donors, individuals who choose to save the life of someone they may never meet.

Eisenberg hopes his story helps raise awareness of living donation. ๐Ÿ’š Living donors can dramatically shorten wait times, save lives, and offer hope where there was none.

๐Ÿ’™ A Message of Hope ๐Ÿค

Getting a diagnosis of bile duct cancer can feel scary and overwhelming. But there is hope.

Our team at UMass Memorial Medical Center recently performed a liver transplant for a patient with a rare and serious type of bile duct cancer. For some patients, a liver transplant can be the best chance for a cure.

This milestone shows whatโ€™s possible when a team of experts works together for patients and families.

If you or someone you love is facing liver or bile duct cancer, know that you are not alone. Help and support are here. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ”ตโšช Which came first โ€” the dance or the dots? โšช๐Ÿ”ต

Believe it or not, polka dots werenโ€™t always cheerful.
Centuries ago, dotted patterns were linked to illness and were even considered taboo.

Then came the Polka dance, lively, joyful, and impossible not to smile at.
Dots found their way onto dresses, hats, and shirtsโ€ฆ and suddenly, polka dots became a symbol of energy, movement, and optimism.

Today, weโ€™re giving polka dots a little UMass twist,
blue and white, for hope, healing, and the strength of our transplant community.

At UMass Memorial, we see transformations every day โ€”
from waiting to new beginnings, from uncertainty to renewed life.

So on National Polka Dot Day, wear your blue and white dots and celebrate:
๐Ÿ’™ Hope
โšช Resilience
๐Ÿ’™ And every step forward our patients and families take

Share your polka dot photos with us, letโ€™s brighten the day together!

This holiday season, weโ€™re reminded that the most meaningful gifts arenโ€™t always wrapped in paper and bows.

At the UMass Transplant Team, some of our favorite โ€œgifts under the treeโ€ are kidney pumps, quietly working behind the scenes to preserve the precious gift of life. Each one represents hope, generosity, and the incredible impact of organ donation.

We are deeply grateful to our donors, patients, colleagues, and community who make this work possible every day. Wishing everyone a season filled with peace, health, and hope. Sending heartfelt thanks to those who give the greatest gift of all. ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ’š
