Behind each organ transplant at UMass Memorial is an unwavering commitment to our patients and donor families, grounded in trust, teamwork, and compassion.

We are deeply proud of the transplant community at UMass Memorial: our care teams, clinical service partners, donor families, patients and their families. Together, we continue to move forward with purpose, guided by precision, empathy, and hope.

This holiday season, we’re reminded that the most meaningful gifts aren’t always wrapped in paper and bows.

At the UMass Transplant Team, some of our favorite “gifts under the tree” are kidney pumps, quietly working behind the scenes to preserve the precious gift of life. Each one represents hope, generosity, and the incredible impact of organ donation.

We are deeply grateful to our donors, patients, colleagues, and community who make this work possible every day. Wishing everyone a season filled with peace, health, and hope. Sending heartfelt thanks to those who give the greatest gift of all. 🎄💚

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving from the UMass Memorial Health Transplant Team! 🦃
Today we pause to give thanks for the extraordinary people who make our work possible—our donor families, our dedicated colleagues across the health system, and the resilient patients who inspire us every day.

On a holiday centered around gratitude, we are especially mindful of the gift of life and the compassion that fuels organ donation. Thank you for allowing us to walk beside you in moments of hope, healing, and profound generosity.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, warm, and meaningful Thanksgiving.

🎉 Big News for Our Transplant Community! 🎉

UMass Memorial Medical Center has been named a Center of Excellence in Nutrition and Dietetics—one of only four hospitals in the country and the first in New England to earn this honor! 💙🤍

For our transplant patients, this means you’re receiving nutrition care from a nationally recognized team with expertise in helping you prepare for transplant, heal after surgery, and protect your new organ long-term.

We’re incredibly proud of our dietitians and grateful for the role they play in every step of your transplant journey. Thank you for trusting us with your care! ❤

🌎Happy World Kindness Day from UMass Memorial Health Transplant Team!
Today we celebrate the small acts of compassion that make the biggest difference; holding a hand during uncertainty, answering a midnight call, advocating for a patient who can’t advocate for themselves, or saying “yes” to donation and giving someone else a second chance at life.🌍

In transplant, kindness isn’t just a moment.
It’s a culture. A promise. A shared purpose.

To every donor, every family, every caregiver, every coordinator, every surgeon, every nurse, and every community partner who chooses kindness even on the hardest days: thank you. You make second chances possible. 💙💚

Every kidney transplant starts with a generous act from a living or deceased donor and the commitment of an extraordinary team.
Dr. Anil Chandraker and Dr. Dheera Reddy recently joined Shrewsbury Media Connection to share why kidney donation matters, how living donors are protected and supported, and what outcomes patients can expect at UMass Memorial Health.

🎉 A Milestone for UMass Transplant! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate our 100th kidney transplant, the first time in the history of our program that we’ve reached this remarkable milestone in a single year.

This achievement is a testament to the hard work, compassion and dedication of our entire UMass Transplant team; surgeons, physicians, nurses, coordinators, and support staff and, to the incredible generosity of our donor families who make every life-saving match possible.💙💚

Every transplant represents hope, second chances, and the power of teamwork.

*NOTE- In true transplant-center fashion, every time we tried to schedule a team photo… another transplant happened! It’s the best kind of scheduling conflict.
We finally thought outside the box and made it work, and for this reason, we now keep a stock photo of our surgeons just for these moments! 😂*

Such an important reminder. At UMass Memorial, we see firsthand how early awareness, education, and community engagement can change lives. 💚💙

October is both National Liver Awareness Month and Liver Cancer Awareness Month, and American Liver Foundation is here to support the 100 million Americans living with liver disease.

Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to take our quick quiz to check their risk for liver disease and liver cancer, try recipes from our 30-day liver-healthy meal plan, advocate virtually on Capitol Hill for liver health initiatives, and participate in free ALF educational + community events.

Let’s raise awareness, take action, and fight liver disease together. 💚💙
