Leona Kudron credits her rehab success to the incredible people who supported her every step of the way. From the very beginning, she was met with kindness, compassion, and gentle care that made a difficult time much easier to face.

100 Feet and Feeling Stronger Every Day

When I first arrived, I wasnā€™t able to walk at all. Today, I can walk 100 feet with a rolling walker ā€” something that once felt impossible and now feels like an incredible milestone.

Iā€™m also so grateful for the shorter, three-hour dialysis sessions. The treatments go by much faster, and I donā€™t feel nearly as exhausted afterward compared to the longer sessions. Itā€™s made a meaningful difference in how I feel each day and has truly supported my overall recovery.

Every step forward counts, and Iā€™m proud of how far Iā€™ve come. šŸ’›

Our Life Enrichment Program is truly the heart of Saint Francis Adult Day Health. From engaging field trips and visits with therapy animals to gentle encouragement that inspires participants to join in activities, this dedicated team keeps our community active, curious, and connected. Their creativity and compassion empower participants to maintain confidence, purpose, and joy in their daily lives.

Our Social Services Department supports participants and their caregivers beyond our walls. Navigating the increasingly complex world of insurance benefits, guardianship, elder care, and housing can feel overwhelming. With a calm approach and genuine concern for each individualā€™s well-being, our social services team ensures needs are met at home and in the communityā€”helping participants feel secure and confident in maintaining their independence.

Iā€™m excited to share that after completing my rehabilitation at St. Francis, Iā€™m heading home feeling stronger and more confident than I ever expected. The program played a monumental role in my recovery. I especially enjoyed the bike sessions, and the walking exercises helped me steadily rebuild my strength.

Occupational Therapy made a meaningful difference in my daily life ā€” from showering safely to making a sandwich again. It reminded me that the ā€œsimpleā€ things arenā€™t always simple after a setback, but with the right support and guidance, regaining those skills is absolutely possible.

After being hospitalized at St. Vincent Hospital with anemia and septic shock, Tina came to us as a new dialysis patient. Through our five-day-a-week, in-house dialysis model, she received consistent treatment without the burden of outside transportationā€”allowing her to fully participate in rehabilitation and focus on healing.

Recently, Tina returned to visit and shared her heartfelt gratitude:
ā€œYou brought me back to life! Everyone treated me so well and like family. I miss everyone so much. The care I received here at Saint Francis was unbelievable! If I ever had to go back to rehab it would be here! I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!ā€

This week, weā€™re shining a spotlight on the incredible work our outpatient therapy team does every day to help participants stay safe, strong, and confidentā€”both in our program and at home.

Many participants choose to work with our physical, occupational, and speech therapists to improve strength, balance, and communication skills, while also learning strategies to help prevent falls. Our team partners not only with participants, but also with their households to support safety in every environment.

And with our newly designed gym space, we have even more room to provide top-notch care!

šŸŒŸ Success Story Spotlight: Kenneth Dicillo šŸŒŸ

After experiencing a CVA and a history of falls, Kenneth came to St. Francis needing significant support. He required assistance from two therapists for transfers, was dependent with daily activities, and could only walk about 20 feet using a walker.

During his rehabilitation, Kenneth made significant progress. By discharge, he was walking 175 feet with supervision, his transfers greatly improved, and he made major gains with dressing and bathing.

Kenneth shared that he truly feels his rehabilitation was a success thanks to both his own motivation and the outstanding therapy team. He expressed deep appreciation for the encouragement he received throughout his stay, and especially for Taylor and Danielle, who provided a home exercise program and resources to help him continue progressing at home.

About Saint Francis

Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is a 137 bed Skilled Nursing Facility located in the Grafton Hill area of Worcester. Our campus consists of 63 long-term care beds, including a 16 bed menā€™s only unit. The center has only private, semi-private and grand semi-private rooms. We have five nursing units, 53 private rooms, two (2) small neighborhood Alzheimerā€™s Units totaling 37 secure beds, 35 Sub-Acute and a separate Adult Day Health program that can provide services for up to 60 participants per day. The skilled nursing facility has a beautiful Chapel and celebrates Mass six days a week.

The History of Saint Francis

The sacred history of the Little Franciscans of Mary had its beginnings in 1889. It is here that the foundresses, those 11 courageous women with generous hearts placed the ā€˜cornerstoneā€™ of the congregation. Saint Francis maintains many of the traditions of the Little Sisters, with a focus on reverence and respect for life.
