🌟Feature Friday🌟This week, we are featuring Christopher McCormick, alumni of the WSU MS-SLP and current adjunct faculty member! Chris’ area of expertise is in dysphagia, pediatric feeding/swallowing, and acute care. Currently, Chris is supervising clinical simulations with our MS-SLP students completing their on-campus clinic placement. Professionally, aside from working full time in an inpatient pediatric hospital, he teaches graduate and undergraduate classes at 3 different universities across MA and RI. 💫CLINICAL CONNECTIONS💫 Dr. Kym Meyer’s graduate Aural Rehabilitation MS-SLP students worked together to analyze the methodological problems of a specific research study. After reviewing several other studies, the class learned that American Sign Language does not negatively impact spoken language development in deaf/hard of hearing children. Students continued to recognize the importance of being a critical thinker when it comes to reviewing evidence-based research in the field of Speech Language Pathology🦻🗣️🧠🤟

🚨Hands-on Learning Alert!🚨

In our Language Disorders in Adults class with Doc P, our graduate students had the opportunity to hear from an AAC expert from about supporting individuals living with apashia. The session highlighted the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA), which focuses on helping people reconnect with meaningful activities and social participation after a stroke.

Students explored how high-tech AAC tools can support communication for individuals with aphasia and their caregivers, and how person-centered technology can be customized for different linguistic backgrounds.

At Worcester State, experiences like this connect what we learn in the classroom with real-world clinical practice -- preparing our students to support communication, participation, and quality of life. 💙 💛
