🚨 Hands-on Learning Alert 🚨

Our new student clinicians in the accelerated program just completed hearing screening training 👂✨

As part of our program, students gain five hours of hands-on experience providing community-based screenings for hundreds of children across the county.

During training, students learned pure-tone audiometry (aka the beep-beep boop-boop test 😉) and tympanometry—and are ready to put their skills into action!

🌟Feature Friday🌟This week, we are featuring WSU MS-SLP Alum, Katya Bowen M.S., CCC-SLP, CBIS. Katya was a graduate of the MS-SLP class of 2002. Currently, Katya specializes in brain injuries, working in the medical setting and positively impacting many patient lives. Recently, graduate students in Dr. Whitney Postman’s Cognition Disorders course got to hear from Katya Bowen and one of her previous patients, Stacia Bissel, M.Ed, who survived a traumatic brain injury, discuss the client and clinician perspectives of brain injury treatment methods. A fun fact about Katya is that she paid for graduate school by working as a fly fishing instructor. Thank you for sharing your story Katya!

Undergraduate students in Dr. Curro’s CD 401 Advanced Directed Observation class wrapped up the semester with a celebratory potluck! After a semester of learning about therapy and SOAP notes, these students are ready for the next step: graduate school and jobs!

Our graduate students in CD 920 Speech Sound Disorders also concluded their semester with final presentations and joined in on the potluck fun.

A wonderful way to celebrate growth across both programs!

🌟Feature Friday🌟This week, we are featuring second year MS-SLP Graduate Student, Liz Costanzo! After graduation, Liz is interested in working with adult clients in a medical setting. However, she is excited to get more clinical experience with different populations to find her niche. A fun fact about Liz is that she enjoys hiking in the woods with her husky shepard, named Kozy (aka Kozer)! We hope you had a great semester, Liz!

Hiba Farhan was a fantastic Peer Mentor for Dr. Meyer’s First Year Seminar, Disability in America: The History We Didn’t Learn. Dr. Meyer & her students enjoyed their last class with brunch and watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, an allegory for the civil rights movement (which includes disability rights). 📚🧠👥
