Did you know later this month, the American Heart Association will be releasing updated guidelines for the standard of Emergency Cardiovascular Care?

The comprehensive review of best practices is incredibly important to make sure that recommended practices are keeping in step with what the science is saying. Any updates will be immediately reflected in AHA courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Heartsaver), but these changes will NOT impact existing/current certification. It is still a good idea to review the new recommendations when they come out, so you can offer the best standard of care!

In the week following the release, we will be posting an overview of notable guideline changes, so keep an eye out!

Would you know what to do if you saw someone experiencing cardiac arrest?

Sudden cardiac arrest awareness month is a good time to learn about the signs, symptoms, and steps to respond during a cardiac emergency.

Always remember:
CALL 📞 call 911

SHOCK ⚡ use an AED

Unlike many of the impressive feats shown in this movie, performing high-quality CPR is NOT impossible! Let’s address what could be improved in this scene 🤔

Here are some things we noticed in Mission Impossible III:
❌ Compressions were too fast and not deep enough
❌ This is not a situation where someone would likely receive a precordial thump
❌ The ratio of compressions to rescue breaths was incorrect

✅ She made sure the scene was safe before beginning CPR
✅ She was positioned properly over the center of the chest, with her arms straight
✅ She counted out loud to steady her rate of compressions and to keep track of rescue breaths

*15 compressions to 2 breaths is the correct ratio for two-rescuer child CPR. 30 compressions to 2 breaths is the recommended ratio for 1-rescuer child CPR.
