👋🏻 Hi! I'm Jamie, owner of Bodyspeaks. I am so excited to be joining Gabrielle and offering Massage and Craniosacral Fascial Therapy at Village PT and Wellness. I truly believe that everyone deserves to feel great and have optimal wellness. Our body's speak to us and I am here to help you facilitate what it is saying.

I have been a Massage Therapist since 2016 and completed my Craniosacral Fascial training in 2022. I am also a nurse by trade. My clients will say I specialize in deep tissue massage. Village PT & Wellness has a new pelvic health therapist on the team! 🫶🏻

👋🏻 Hi, I’m Katie, an occupational therapist who specializes in treating pelvic floor dysfunction.  I graduated with my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2012. I love spending time with my husband and our 5 year old son. We are excited to be expecting our second son in July. For fun, I enjoy pilates, weight lifting, reading and spoiling my two French Bulldogs.

I found my passion for pelvic health after my own pregnancy/postpartum journey. I am a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist and I am passionate about treating pelvic floor dysfunction from a functional, holistic, and evidenced-based approach. As an occupational therapist, my goal is to help people participate in daily, meaningful activities, while looking at the physical, mental, and emotional challenges that may accompany pelvic floor dysfunction.

Here’s a great exercise for pregnancy when your baby is getting bigger and you feel your weight starting to shift forward! 

➡️ Tie a resistance band around the door handle (preferably the opposite handle), then close the door so the band can't fling back at you, or tie to something sturdy. 

➡️ Focus on putting your weight through the middle of your standing foot while the other lifts forward. Engage your deep abdominals by hugging your baby in and up, then squeeze your shoulder blades together and pull the band backward. Have a chair nearby to catch your balance just in case!

⭐️ Good posture during pregnancy can be tricky to maintain but practicing exercises like this can help bring awareness to those fundamental pieces.

After having your baby, it is important to protect your body in the early weeks post baby! 👩‍🍼

➡️ I see a lot of women who are ready to get back to being strong after their baby arrives. The very important and necessary first step is to protect your healing body especially in those early weeks!

➡️ Diastasis Re**us (DR) separation is one of the concerns some women have post baby. This is the separation of one of your abdominal muscles at the midline of your belly. It can be seen as a gap or a bulge with resting and/or with specific movements. DR is very common during pregnancy and it is also common for this separation to take some time to heal post baby. Most people have significant changes to the resting DR within the first 8 weeks postpartum and most changes occur with 16 weeks postpartum. This is when you need to focus on being gentle with your body, practicing activating those deeper muscles again, start building healthy habits such as good posture, proper alignment, and best ways to lift, carry, bend etc.

Improvement in DR can vary due to genetics, weight, how many babies, and more. There are things you should know and be doing to help your body heal in those early weeks after having your baby. This is where a pelvic health therapist is so important! ✨🙋🏼‍♀️
