Very few clinicians pride themselves in doing Dialectical and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, DBT, as per the treatment developer describes and supporting research proves. There are so few who do this that very few actually get treatment as it is supposed to be done. Most have to settle for close to it or good enough. And of course, this may be sufficient for many. DBT is proven to reduces su***de attempts, hospitalizations, self-injurious behaviors, substance abuse and addiction, and behaviors related to eating disorders. DBT practitioners have saved many lives, collaboratively enhanced people’s quality of life, to help people build the life they want to live. DBT is a treatment for those with complex trauma and helps anyone with any presenting programs build skills to manage their lives. It is effective in treating many mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and various others including Borderline Personality Disorder. In fact DBT was a treatment that proved BPD was treatable and people with BPD can recover. Many are recommended DBT and it may not be THE treatment but AN option. I absolutely will not compromise my approach and will only do it to fidelity, which means doing all components necessary to be considered DBT. Although I’m also trained in CBT and a few other treatments, I mainly do DBT since there are so few willing to commit to doing it to fidelity.
