Feeding your baby shouldn’t leave you with a sore neck, tight shoulders, and an aching low back…but for a lot of moms, it does.

Not because you’re doing anything wrong,
but because most feeding happens in a curled-forward position for hours a day.

A few small setup changes can make a big difference:

• Add a pillow behind your low back for support
• Use a footrest to take pressure off your spine
• Bring baby up to you with pillows—don’t hunch down
• Rest your arms so your shoulders can actually relax

Think: supported, grounded, and relaxed—not rounded and straining.

Pain in your neck and upper back is SO common after having a baby. A big contributor to postpartum pain that often gets overlooked: daily positioning.

Most baby care happens in a forward-flexed posture—looking down, shoulders rounded, and upper back curved forward.

Over time, this can lead to:
• Increased strain on the neck and upper back
• Tightness through the chest and shoulders
• Added pressure on the low back

A few simple adjustments can reduce that strain:
• Bring baby up to you with pillows instead of leaning down
• Sit in a chair with good low back support
• Keep your feet supported on the floor or a stool
• Take short breaks to gently stretch and change positions

Small changes in how you position your body throughout the day can make a meaningful difference over time.

Did you know that babies should be able to turn their heads fully to both sides? If a baby has a preference for one side versus the other (or maybe prefers to breastfeed on one side), this means they should see a pediatric chiropractor.

Turning the head fully to both sides is necessary for babies to develop a nice, round skull. When a baby has a side preference, they'll tend to sleep with their head turned to the same side, which can lead to a flat spot on the head. If not caught early enough, this can cause the baby to need a helmet.

Gentle chiropractic & craniosacral therapy for babies restores the normal range of motion of the neck and encourages the head to restore a round shape. Babies receiving gentle chiropractic care (baby adjustments are incredibly gentle) often have relief from constipation, reflux, colic, feeding challenges, torticollis, sleep issues, and ear infections.

How to Avoid Text Neck?

Some 83 percent of American adults own cell phones, and three-quarters of them send and receive text messages. One problem that is becoming more and more prevalent is neck strain from the overuse of these mobile devices, or “text neck.”

What Causes Text Neck?

Text neck is caused by poor posture when using a mobile device. It’s all too common to become hunched over with your head drooping forward and your shoulders rounded as you become engrossed in messaging, games, and social media.

How to Avoid Text Neck

Sit up straight with your chest out and your shoulders back.

Bring your arms up in front of your eyes so that you don’t need to look down to see the screen.

Tuck your chin into your chest to look down rather than dropping your head forward.

Rest your forearms on a pillow while typing to help minimize neck tension.

Avoid using mobile devices while in bright sunlight. Straining to see the screen leads to jutting the chin forward, shifting work from the spine to the muscles that hold up the head.

The best way to avoid text neck is to limit the use of your mobile device. If you need to send an e-mail, wait until you have access to a computer. If you need to share some information, call the person rather than text them.

Is it normal: for my hands and/or arms to fall asleep a lot?

Answer: Sometimes. This is your body telling you that something is pinched! Always listen to your body. Try changing your position and see if it goes away quickly.

If this happens frequently, this can be a sign that a nerve isn’t functioning properly. Your chiropractor can usually help with this. The nerve can be pinched at the base of your neck, in your shoulder, your elbow, or your wrist.

Very often, chiropractic care resolves these issues. Acupuncture can also be helpful. Get checked if it persists for more than a week or is affecting what you can do, or your sleep. We will also go over your daily habits to see what's causing this - look at your pillow, mattress, or computer setup to see if you can make changes to help.
