Community Health Centers are a critical access point for oral health care in America.

In 2024 alone:
🦷 7 million patients relied on Community Health Centers for dental care
🦷 16.8 million dental visits were delivered nationwide
🦷 80% of health centers provided dental services

Yet two-thirds of patients still have unmet oral health needs, largely due to gaps in coverage and workforce shortages.

New analysis from the NACHC Dr. John W. Hatch Center for Science explores the role Community Health Centers play in delivering dental care—and what it will take to strengthen access moving forward.

Congrats to The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education for being a 2025-2026 Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCMGE) grantee! So awesome 🥳

HRSA awarded over $5 million to 26 teaching health centers operating primary care medical and dental residency programs through the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program.

The program supports training in rural and community-based outpatient settings, allowing health centers and other safety net providers to prepare a primary care workforce that understands and meets the needs of the communities they serve.

With Match Day later this week—when medical students learn where they will complete their residency training—this announcement highlights investments that will support the next generation of clinicians who will serve rural and underserved communities.
