Delivering Death Notifications in the Field

NAEMT’s Breaking Bad News course is an introduction to techniques that can assist EMS clinicians in delivering difficult news to patients’ families and to patients who may be seriously ill or injured. Participants will discuss the impact of breaking bad news, share professional experiences, and role play ways to deliver death notifications to loved ones and caregivers.

Breaking Bad News is offered as a 3-hour classroom course and is appropriate for all levels of EMS practitioners, other medical professionals providing prehospital patient care, and EMS supervisors and administrators, as applicable. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate of completion and a provider card for 4 years. Breaking Bad News is accredited by CAPCE.

Our Executive Vice President has completed the Military Emergency Management Specialist - Master Rating. & Master Continuity Practitioner.
His dedication to Emergency Management Training is something that makes our company a go-to for Emergency Management Consultation.

Tactical Instructor Shawn Smith has also been with C3, advancing his education as an Incident Commander for Active Shooter situations.

Our Director of Operations has completed the American Red Cross Crossover Training and is now an American Red Cross Instructor Trainer for all Red Cross Programs. He is also actively completing the NAEMT Courses so that he can be an NAEMT Instructor.

This 3-hour course teaches students to identify and assist their patients in making healthy food choices. It defines the five food groups, various nutrient types, vitamins, and minerals, as well as the characteristics of a well-balanced diet. Students will learn to conduct a nutritional assessment, develop a personalized food plan, interpret food labels, and identify safe food handling practices. Students will also be introduced to nutritional considerations for special groups. This course covers the following topics: nutrition in health, nutritional assessment and planning, and nutritional considerations for special populations.

Respiratory Disorders is a 5-hour course that teaches students working as community paramedics to assist patients diagnosed with respiratory disorders. The course will provide students with a more comprehensive understanding of respiratory disorders, present case studies on patients with COPD and asthma, review patient education tips, and learn techniques for addressing acute-on-chronic disorders (e.g., pneumonia). The course will also explain management techniques for patients with other common chronic, sub-acute, and acute respiratory conditions. Students will participate in guided discussions, role play activities, and identification of community resources.
