When a walk unexpectedly takes you to a magical place ✨💕 Walking through the field and smelling the lavender instantly relaxed me. I bought some culinary lavender and am excited to start using it in recipes.

😆 This week, a patient said this to me during their treatment, and it made me giggle, so I had to share it with you. Acupuncture is fun!

I leave patients to rest for about 30 minutes during an acupuncture treatment. When I return to the treatment room, patients often say, "Time went by fast," or "That didn't feel like 30 minutes."

If 30 minutes of relaxation sounds good to you, schedule an acupuncture appointment today!

Eat Your Greens

Eat sprouting foods in harmony with the natural growth of the season. Eating more light, healthy greens like asparagus, kale, collards, watercress, and lettuce while avoiding rich foods can help unblock the heavy energy of the previous winter months.

🌲This acupuncture point is Liver 3. It is one of my favorite points; I use it often in the clinic! This point is for great for moving Liver qi. Stagnant Liver qi can cause feelings of anger, irritability and frustration. It can also cause pain in the body. This point is also great for balancing the body's energy with Spring's energy.

🍃If you feel " stuck " physically or emotionally, try applying pressure to this point for 15 seconds and repeat it 3-5 times (odd numbers bring about change). This point can be found on the top of your foot, moving upward from the space between the first and second toes. You may notice this area is tender when pressure is applied.

Put some Spring in Your Step!

🚶‍♀️Moving the body is excellent for getting your qi to flow smoothly. Spring is the season of Wood and Green, making it the perfect season to take a walk in nature among the trees. See what changes you notice in your body/mood after your walk.

Here are a few of my favorite local loop trails:
🥾Houston Meadow Loop
🥾High Rocks Trail Loop
🥾Mitchell Trail, Creek Road and Raytharn Trail Loop
*AllTrails is excellent for directions

Yesterday was a special day filled with joy and kindness!
A patient organized a morning of relaxation for her sister and their friends. The morning started with yoga led by followed by Patty giving massage treatments and myself giving acupuncture treatments . While the ladies waited for their treatment they enjoyed breakfast and conversation.
My heart is full that I got to be part of such a special day💕

Happy Spring! The spring is a time of renewal cleansing. The flavor associated with Spring is Sour and the organ is Liver. A great way to start your day during this season is with a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. The sour flavor soothes the liver and helps rid the body of toxins. 🍋

💨In TCM, wind is one of the six external evils (Wind, Cold, Heat, Damp, Dryness, and Summer Heat) that cause disease.
🍃Spring is the season associated with Wind. The Spring windy season is here!
🧣Many of the points that can be easily affected by Wind are on the upper back, neck, and head. Wearing a scarf or hoodie, especially when it’s windy or after an acupuncture treatment, can help prevent wind attack.

Common symptoms of wind attack:
◦ common cold
◦ headache
◦ nasal obstruction
◦ itching
◦ allergies and rashes
◦ tight neck and uppers back muscles

Help your body heal itself!

Acupuncture promotes natural healing. It can enhance recuperative power and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall function and well-being.

Treatments balance and restore the body’s energy flow. Research shows that acupuncture causes the body to release its own natural painkillers as well as molecules associated with tissue healing and disease resolution.

There are four known mechanisms acupuncture has been shown to work.
✨Stimulates local blood flow
✨Normalizes the nervous system
✨Improves emotional well being by effecting endorphins, serotonin and dopamine
✨Lessens pain sensitivity

Acupuncture can help with so many symptoms/conditions because it is focused on bringing the body back into balance. The goal of each treatment is to get the blood and qi flowing smoothly and evenly through all the meridians. When qi is stagnated pain and unbalanced emotions arise.

A congee is traditional Chinese medicinal porridge made from rice. It is seen as a powerful therapeutic food for strengthening digestion, boasting energy and immunity and aiding in the recovery from illness. Rice porridge has many names across Asia (juk, okayu, kanji). It can be made sweet or savory. This winter make your spleen happy and cook some congee.

In East Asian medicince living in accordance to the energy of the season brings balance. Just as the animals and plants use the months of winter to rest and prepare for spring so must we.

In the words of my former professor Janice MacKenzie, "Only if we allow for periods of rest in our daily, weekly, and yearly cycles will we truly be in balance and harmony with the Tao."

💆‍♀️Acupuncture can help prevent colds and flu by fortifying the immune system. The focus of treatment is to fortify the protective layer around the exterior of the body called Wei Qi, or defensive energy.

🍲During the cold months of the year focus on eating more warm foods to boost energy and digestion. Soups, stews, congees and roasted vegetables are all good choices. For drinks try room temperature water and hot herbal teas.

🛏️This winter take time to rest and take advantage of early darkness and go to bed earlier. The Nei Ching, an ancient Chinese classic, advised people to go to sleep early, rest well, and rise late after the sun's rays have warmed the atmosphere a bit.

📓Be mindful in finding ways to reduce stress. According to East Asian medicine, stress, frustration, and unresolved anger can play an important part in throwing the immune system off and allowing pathogens to affect the body.
