In the News!

As Gary shared on the Think Like a Pancreas--The Podcast episode, The Latest in Diabetes Tech. An ATTD 2026 Recap with Gary Scheiner, Insulet has announced the upcoming Omnipod 5 updates include algorithm enhancements and expanded sensor compatibility.

These include a new 100 mg/dL target glucose option, designed for more time in range, with no meaningful impact on time below range. The enhanced algorithm is also designed to reduce interruptions and help users remain in Automated Mode, including during prolonged hyperglycemia.

Omnipod 5 will also integrate with the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor, expanding sensor choice for users who prefer FreeStyle Libre sensors, with access to LibreLinkUp to allow up to 20 followers.

News from Sugarmate by Tandem...

Tandem patients using the t:slim X2 insulin pump may now link their Tandem Source platform account within Sugarmate by Tandem.

This means t:SlimX2 users can make this their primary data sharing app by linking Tandem Source and enabling data sharing within the Sugarmate by Tandem app (version 4.2 or later).

Sugarmate by Tandem allows patients to share their CGM data with up to 20 followers.

AI is everywhere today, but is it helpful when it comes to managing your diabetes?

Its lack of human component is a huge detriment.

While there are some uses for AI in your diabetes management, the best tool to help you manage your diabetes is a human Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.

AI can have value when managing your diabetes.

It is wonderful at analyzing specific, well-defined data sets.

One of the things that AI is not good at is hearing what you are not asking. It cannot infer or know the subtext of your life unless you input a huge amount of very detailed data into it with very specific prompts.

That is where a clinician comes in.

He/she not only has personality behind it in terms of how they talk about your diabetes, but they also have experience and education.

While Gary may enjoy his time on the court, in Episode 85 of Think Like a Pancreas--The Podcast, Dr. Paula admits that she really isn't into team sports.
