I love my “me time”. After a long day at work, I usually like to unwind with an Anime or Netflix series. If “me time” is a priority for you right now, you might have to change things around to accommodate a new addition to the family. Life as you know it will never be the same (at least for the first few years 😊) and you will forever want or need to be around your baby but as in most cases, it is not forced. Once you become a parent, your priorities naturally change and everything revolves around your baby, though you might find your bathroom breaks getting longer or randomly find yourself hiding in the pantry or gulping down meals hoping your “little Tasmanian Dev… * cough cough* Angel” does not get a whiff of your lunch/ dinner 😊

It is perfectly fine for you to take some time off or indulge in your favourite dessert or sneak in an episode or 2 of Grey’s Anatomy, while he/she is asleep. You will probably feel selfish at some point but know that it is A.O.K.! Making time for yourself is much needed when you’re a parent. However, you might still want to get those tissues out and get ready for an emotional rollercoaster as emotions run high when you are sleep deprived or frustrated because you do not know how to calm your crying baby.

Being a mother comes naturally but requires a lot – physically and emotionally. In the initial stages of being a mother; it might feel very lonely and Postpartum blues/ Postpartum depression are very real. It may be temporary, but it’s essential to be as prepared as possible. Not everyone may experience postpartum blues, but even then, having a newborn takes a lot of recalibrating. The emotional highs and lows are often something mothers don’t expect and might catch them by surprise but know that you are not alone in this, and it is absolutely fine to ask for help when you need it.

Our son was blue when he came out and wasn't breathing or crying for 20 secs before the team finally revived him. The longest 20 secs of my life...

Every pregnancy is different. Even the labour experience differs depending on various factors, and if you opt for an epidural or not. My wife opted for a natural delivery as her personal research indicated that taking an epidural prolonged labour in some cases.

As I saw her lying on the bed vulnerable and watched the nurses run around frantically trying to revive our child, I could not help but think what if she went through these 9 months of mild contractions, backaches, tiredness, swollen feet, bloated feeling, nausea, the pain of labour and at the end of it all wouldn't be able to hold our crying child in her hands and feel his warmth.

I hope no one goes through such an experience but more often than not many women go through this trauma and my heart goes out to those mother's who have had miscarriages or still births or have lost their child to an accident. I have great admiration and respect for their courage and perseverance. Their undying spirit to keep fighting!

After having witnessed child birth for a 2nd time I truly believe women have been wrongly branded the weaker s*x or termed delicate flowers. Ha! Far from it! On the contrary they have a much higher threshold for pain and are much stronger than men physically n mentally. If only the metrics to define physical strength was not just lifting weights or heavy objects or opening a pickle jar, like in my case.

She might be ridiculed, pushed aside, misjudged, overlooked, abused, misunderstood but DON'T YOU DARE UNDERESTIMATE THE STRENGTH OF A WOMAN!! SHE HAS THE MENTAL FORTITUDE TO CALM A STORM OR STAND BEFORE ANY MOUNTAIN IN DEFIANCE!!

Respect to all you women out there fighting their own personal battles - stand strong, never give up and keep fighting for the LIFE you envision until you're living it!!
