Everybody welcome beautiful baby Girl Elliana! Mom did a perfect job of navigating her contractions, taking charge of her birth space and birthing her baby girl sunny side up. That back labor was no joke!
Honored to have been a part of her birthday but also the birth of her parents!

How many moms gave up breastfeeding because they thought baby wasn’t getting enough milk based on the frequency and duration of nursing sessions?

Now how many of you were educated on cluster feeding? (When baby is growing and begins to nurse more often and for longer stretches of time to trigger an increase in milk.)

In some cases, yes breastfeeding requires a professional evaluation,(tongue/lip ties, cleft palates, slow weight gain etc) but in a lot of cases it requires diligence and perseverance by you and baby.

Breastfeeding is supply and demand. Greater demand requires a greater supply.

And that’s a wrap for July! Baby boy was a surprise gender, born at 41 weeks and 1 day. Mom did everything perfectly and I couldn’t be more proud of her for staying so calm and controlled even in the midst of a change to her home birth plan. But even while walking through the doors of the hospital, she advocated for herself and never lost her voice. Everyone welcome Knight to the party!

He's a 2. 🥴😂

It's great to have your partner as involved as possible for pregnancy, labor, birth, and clear through Postpartum. Their role is so essential and can be a constant support. Their role is unique. No one could take away the type of love and support a partner brings. Or even a family member.

A doula is something different. A doula is trained and studies this particular phase of life on a daily basis. They've been to countless births and can almost hear what to do next in the sigh or the moan of the birther. We also are excellent at helping ensure the partner knows what to do in certain situations so they can support the birther even more!

I use "he" in this scenario because I have a husband and he would definitely be a 2 if he would have said this. 😂

Another perfect birth. Mom trusted her body, trusted her baby and the two worked together. Baby girl was born 4 days past her due date because as we know, due dates are guesses and babies will be born when they’re ready.

I know my mom was smiling today to watch me assist another mom birth her baby the way she birthed all 6 of hers. ❤️❤️

Mom was a perfect example of advocating for herself and denying an unnecessary induction. We chatted all day about what to look for, when to defer to your dr but also how to stand up for yourself. While they pushed her to induce yesterday, we discussed ways she could get things going if she went home. 4 hours later, she was rushing to the hospital because baby boy was trying to make his entrance. One push, barely off the stretcher and he was here. That’s how you balance a hospital birth and still maintain your power and control. I’m so proud of them both!!

Several Black birth workers and groups in Little old Delaware are making a BIG DEAL of this week as we should! And I hope to see everyone participating!

Amazing facts about placentas

-they are disposable organs. You grow one for the baby you are carrying and sustaining. Once the baby is born, the placenta comes shortly after and is no longer needed in your body.

-Each pregnancy grows a new one. Each of your children is sustained by the placenta you grow specifically for them.

-The blood of mother and baby pass through the placenta but don’t mix. There’s a baby side connected by the umbilical cord, and the mother side which implants into the uterus and grows during pregnancy.

So yeah look at what I, a black woman, made (placenta prints and capsules) but also look at these beautiful placentas that my clients (black women) have made!
