As we head into the new school year I just wanted to drop a few Lice reminders below.
* Lice is shared via DIRECT head to head contact. This means its shared by someone NOT something. So, while we get frustrated with outbreaks within our school districts and daycare centers please be kind to them and remember that your child did NOT catch lice from sharing lockers or hooks next to each other. Lice was not shared from the reading corner it self but from kids touching heads in the reading corner. Lice is not in the carpet, on the walls, on the bean bag chairs. Its not shared from a child who appears less clean ( this stigma NEEDS to go) as lice only care about you having blood and hair.
How was it shared?
*Sitting close to their friends ( and touching heads) on the bus, selfies, electronics, recess OR not in the school setting at all. Infact , most lice cases are 4-6,weeks old by the time we even discover it on our childs head.
Bottom line...
* As frustrating as this is, it's not the schools responsibility to notify families when a child has lice ( they don't do this for a cold, strep ect). Its our job as a parent to check our kids heads WEEKLY for early detection.
What will early detection do?
Lice infestation are not "contagious" the first few weeks. By preforming a proper ( with a professional nit comb, not our eyes) weekly head check we can treat properly and eliminate lice BEFORE its shared through the entire household and friends group.
Also, reinfesatiom rates are very, very high with lice. You NEED to contact close friends and family of exposure so your child doesn't catch it again.
