I’m excited to share that on October 9, I had the privilege of presenting at the Mental Health and Education Conference “Illuminate The Path, Better Together.” My session, “Understanding the Importance of the Immigration Story of Our Children,” allowed me to connect with numerous school counselors and teachers, sharing our impactful work aimed at transforming the lives of immigrant children.The conference provided an invaluable platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge. We engaged in meaningful discussions exploring ways to better support immigrant students in our educational systems.I was thoroughly impressed by the event’s organization and the caliber of attendees. The collaborative atmosphere reinforced the importance of our work and left me energized and inspired.Looking forward to participating in future events and continuing to make a difference in the lives of immigrant children through education and mental health support.

I recently had the honor of presenting at the Hispanic Mental Health Conference hosted by the Cannenta Foundation on Friday, September 13, 2024. My presentation focused on immigration trauma and its effects on migrants, opening an important dialogue on this critical issue. Events like this provide invaluable opportunities to discuss sensitive topics that are often overlooked or avoided. By addressing immigration trauma directly, we can learn how to approach these uncomfortable and guarded subjects more effectively. This is crucial for mental health professionals working with immigrant populations, as traumatic experiences during migration can significantly impact mental health outcomes.
The conference offered a platform to share insights on providing culturally appropriate care and tools to help clients heal from immigration-related trauma. As research shows, immigrants face unique stressors related to acculturation, language barriers, and discrimination, which can compound the effects of traumatic experiences.
By participating in such events, mental health professionals can enhance their understanding of the complex issues facing immigrant communities and develop more effective strategies for treatment. The conference's focus on both professional development and public education aligns well with the need to address mental health stigma and improve access to care for Hispanic populations.
I'm looking forward to next year's conference, as these gatherings play a crucial role in advancing our field's ability to serve immigrant communities effectively and compassionately. Continuing this dialogue and sharing best practices is essential for addressing the mental health needs of our diverse clientele.
