WEAVER, BEVERLY HICKS
DOVER-Beverly Hicks Weaver passed peacefully from this earth, surrounded by her loving family, on May 19, 2026, in Dover, Delaware. She entered this world in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 22, 1947, as one of the kindest souls, with a heart of gold. She always encouraged others and maintained a positive attitude no matter what she or her family was facing. Beverly was truly a cheerleader for everyone in her family.

First and foremost, Beverly was a loving wife to her husband of 59 years. They shared a fairy-tale romance that began when Beverly was just 19 years old and Billy was 23 years old. She was the love of his life. They met at Lockheed Martin in Atlanta, GA and were married on January 20, 1967, in Mableton, Georgia.

Beverly began her education at the University of West Georgia. She completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Dakota and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Tennessee. She graduated with honors for each of her degrees. Beverly was a lifelong learner who encouraged higher education for each of her children.

Her husband entered the Air Force in 1966. Beverly raised two children, Jill and Bill Jr., while the family was stationed at multiple bases during her husband’s military career. She cared for two children under the age of one while her husband was stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota, as a B-52 pilot. Despite the demands of being a mother and military spouse for 30 years, she continued her education.

Beverly was a devoted civil service employee for 36 years. She began her service at the United States Air Force Academy as a military spouse and worked diligently in contract awarding and administration. While her beloved husband was stationed at Vance Air Force Base, Hickam Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field near Fort Walton Beach, and Robins Air Force Base, Beverly successfully maintained her career alongside military life. In 1998, she received the Secretary of the Air Force Award for Professional Contracting, which was presented to her at the Pentagon. She retired as Deputy of the Logistics 16th Squadron at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware.

She is survived by the love of her life of 59 years, Billy H. Weaver; her devoted daughter, Beverly Jill Maser (Karl Wilkerson) of Lewes, DE; and her devoted son, Billy Hugh Weaver Jr. (Heidi) of Tucson, AZ. Beverly loved her family more than anything. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Ashleigh Cole (Matthew), Austin Maser (Kaija), Abigayle Maser Fricke (Lt. Robert L. Fricke II), Noah Weaver, and Ian Weaver.

Beverly was especially proud of her six great-granddaughters, affectionately known as her “Girl Squad”: Aubrey Oord-Maser, Gwendolyn (“Gwenie”) Cole, Penelope (“Poppy”) Cole, Georgia Grace Maser, Francesca (“Frankie”) Maser, and Scottie Fricke (“Scottie B”).

She is also survived by her two loving sisters in Georgia, Gail Hicks and Debbie Greathouse (Eddie).

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorice L. Hicks; her father, Frank L. Hicks; her brother, Ronnie Hicks; and her sister, Dianne Flanagan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, Delaware on May 28, 2026. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:45 a.m. Following the service, the family will proceed to Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware.

CHANDLER, JUANITA PERRYMILFORD-Juanita Perry Chandler, 86, of Delaware, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026 in Greenwo...

CHANDLER, JUANITA PERRY
MILFORD-Juanita Perry Chandler, 86, of Delaware, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026 in Greenwood, Delaware.

Born on August 26, 1939 in Spring Hope, North Carolina, Juanita was the daughter of Herbert George Perry and Jeanette White Perry. Growing up in Newport News, Virginia, she was raised in a close-knit family where faith, music, strength, and love were woven into everyday life. Juanita and her siblings sang together as part of a gospel group known as The Perry Singers, and she once played piano by ear. These were early signs of the joy, spirit, and musical gifts she would carry throughout her life.

Juanita shared more than 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, George Elmer Chandler. Married on September 14, 1960, Juanita and George built a life rooted in faith, family, service, and commitment. As a devoted military spouse for 30 years, Juanita served her country in her own meaningful way, creating a home wherever George's service took their family. Their journey carried them to New York, Maine, Michigan, Delaware, Germany, California, and Washington. Through each move and every season, Juanita brought strength, grace, and stability to those she loved.

Juanita earned her bachelor's degree in business from Norfolk State University and later earned her master's degree in counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh. She used those gifts throughout her life as a counselor, educator, and advocate for children and families. As a young Black woman in the 1960s and 1970s, Juanita developed and grew her own career while raising children and often relocating as a military spouse. It was a reflection of her intelligence, resilience, determination, and remarkable ability to balance many responsibilities with grace. Over the years, she served in various schools and school districts. She also worked with state social services departments, including serving as the Assistant Director of the Upward Bound Program at Delaware State University, and later as Director of the Child Care Center at McClellan Air Force Base, before its closure. Her work reflected her belief in people, especially young people, and her desire to help them find direction, confidence, and opportunity.

A faithful member of the Dover Church of Christ, Juanita's Christian faith was central to her life. She loved gospel music, loved to sing, and carried that spirit of faith into the way she welcomed, encouraged, and cared for others.

Juanita loved to travel and entertain and had a gift for making people feel welcome. She was kind, encouraging, funny, and sharp-witted - but she was also strong, direct, and never afraid to speak up when something was not right. Juanita had strong opinions, a quick wit, and a loving way of getting people to do what needed to be done, so much so that family sometimes jokingly called her the "Master Motivator." She could be serious, playful, or both at the same time, and sometimes you were not quite sure whether she was correcting you or "messing" with you.

To those who loved her most, she was also affectionately known as Miss America. It was a name spoken with humor, admiration, and deep affection - a reflection of the beauty, confidence, personality, and presence she carried throughout her life.

Juanita was a devoted mother who poured herself into her children. She spent many late nights helping with homework, typing papers, working on projects, offering guidance, and making sure her children had what they needed to succeed. Her love was active, practical, persistent, and powerful. She did not simply tell her family what mattered; she showed them through sacrifice, expectation, encouragement, and example.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, George Elmer Chandler; her parents, Herbert George Perry and Jeanette White Perry; and her brother, Herbert George "Bill" Perry, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, George E. Chandler II (Tamara), and Darlene Chandler Groce(Mark); her grandchildren: Lexi Mackin (Keegan), Matthew Groce (Kylie), Grant Chandler, Kaylee Groce, and Drew Chandler; her siblings,: David Perry, Elsie Daniels, Gail Cheek, Alroy "Al" Perry (Debbie), and Bettina J. Sellers; along with many extended family members, church family, and dear friends who loved her deeply.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Country Rest Home, Delaware Hospice, including Tracy Rothermel; as well as Kim McElwee, Michelle Poole, Reny Bell; Dr. Maria D'Souza, Kate Gruber, and the rest of the staff at COMPASS Dementia Care, for their care, compassion, and support.

A funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. A committal service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday June 30, 2026 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.

She passed away comfortably, surrounded by loved ones at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE at 78 years young, gracing us with her high-spirited energy for all that time. Nancy entered her earthly body on July 2, 1947 in Dillsboro, NC.

From childhood, Nancy was a gifted pianist, often sharing her talents with the members of different churches that would seek her out to play for them. Nancy learned how to cook early in life as well, a talent that only grew and evolved through her life. In earlier decades of her life, she was a talented artist of several mediums including crochet, macrame, painting, ceramics, an avid reader, as well as an impressive mathematician. Even when retinopathy and arthritis made it increasingly difficult, she still made great efforts to enjoy these things as long as she could. She loved dogs, and had several waiting for her in heaven, barking and yipping with their tails wagging and tongues out.

Some of Nancy’s favorite activities were sharing a delicious meal or snack, enjoying good music, dancing with her girlfriends, spending time with family, watching General Hospital and Perry Mason every day, daily phone calls with loved ones, attending church in person or virtually, sharing a true laugh, shopping, and going to her regularly scheduled self-care beauty appointments. Anyone who knew Nancy knew that if given a task, she would get it done, correctly and efficiently. She was a powerhouse of a person that devoted her entire life to her family and tackling any goal she set for herself. She was a beloved grandmother, great grandmother, sister, mother, aunt, friend, and colleague.

She devoted more than 30 years of service to working as a civilian for the Air Force, holding many interesting positions throughout her career, earning many awards, and receiving endless accolades by superiors and coworkers alike. In the 70s, she was the first ever woman flight simulator instructor for military service members aspiring to become pilots at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK.

In July of 1956, Gerry married Mary Dougherty and became a member of a large family. Gerry shared many adventures with his wife and in-laws. One of his greatest adventures was fatherhood. Gerry and Mary had several children: Gerald (Maryanne), Michael (Eileen), Eleanor (Vincent), Glenn (Sue), Donna and twins George and Eleanor (premature, who passed away shortly after birth). Gerry was a great driver, knew the sights well and always had a relevant story to share with his passengers.

Gerry was an excellent cook and always found ways to extend hospitality to his family, friends and community. When he wasn’t making sure you were well fed, he was raving about his grandchildren and great grandchildren or telling a humorous or heartfelt story from his life.
