For over twenty years, I have advocated for a diet centered around whole, nutrient-dense foods.

The latest guidelines reflect this approach, prioritizing protein, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables while warning against the dangers of ultra-processed foods. Unlike previous guidelines that emphasized whole grains, the new recommendations place greater emphasis on protein and healthy fats, with whole grains forming a smaller part of the diet.

Notably, the guidelines also caution against sugar consumption, particularly for children, recommending that it be delayed until age 10, which is expected to have significant health benefits.
