Mount Rogers Community Services extends its condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Carroll County Sheriff's Office Deputy Logan Utt, who died in the line of duty on May 29. Deputy Utt was a great support to Mount Rogers and completed our Crisis Intervention Team training. We deeply appreciated working with Deputy Utt and remember his compassion and how he treated people with dignity and respect. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, and the community.

Some might call it "beginner's luck." What we do know is our CEO Sandy Bryant was reeling them in despite never fishing before! On Wednesday, Sandy joined Anthony Craver, our program manager for veteran wellness and services, and several veterans from the community for the regular "Fishing for Vets" fishing gathering. This week they met at the Wytheville Community College pond. The results speak for themselves!

All veterans are welcome to come fish with Anthony and the other veterans. Contact him at anthony.craver@mountrogers.org or call or text him at 276-620-2193 for more information. And while you might not be as skilled as Sandy is at catching fish, we're positive you'll have a great time!

We had a great time at the 23rd annual Older Americans Day! We made new friends, spent time with our community, and shared helpful resources for older adults in our area.

This year’s theme is “Champion Your Health.” It reminds us that small healthy choices each day can help people live happy, healthy lives. Staying active, asking for help, and taking care of your health are all important.

Mount Rogers Community Services helps older adults and their families. Our Geriatric Care Team offers:
• Short-term care
• Mental health support
• Dementia-friendly services
• Help for caregivers
• Help finding long-term care

Our goal is to help older adults stay safe, healthy, and connected. We also provide resources to help families learn more about dementia, mental health, and aging.

Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce of Smyth County, Inc. for hosting this wonderful event. We can’t wait for next year!
