🌟 Statewide Trauma Training at MRCS

Last week, professionals from across Virginia joined us at Hungry Mother State Park for the statewide 2nd-tier trauma training: LUV Leader (Lift Up Virginia), presented in collaboration with DBHDS.

LUV is an evidence-based initiative that harnesses the science and power of connection to build resilience across Virginia. This training helps leaders move from trauma-aware to trauma-responsive practices by focusing on three core actions:

* Regulate
* Connect
* Storytelling

At MRCS, our CHATS—Connecting Humans and Telling Stories program puts this evidence-based knowledge into action by bringing people together to practice skills for connection, emotional regulation, and storytelling—all of which foster healing, belonging, and resilience.

We’re proud to help lift up leaders who lift up communities.

Mount Rogers Community Services’ Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) successfully hosted a week-long CIT training in Galax, Virginia, from November 10–14, 2025.

Officers and professionals from the Galax Police Department, Virginia State Police, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, Wytheville Police Department, Twin County Hospital Security, and several Special Conservators of the Peace participated in this comprehensive program.

Throughout the training, attendees engaged in scenario-based learning, interactive instruction, and cross-agency collaboration to strengthen their skills in de-escalation, mental health awareness, and compassionate crisis response.

This collaborative effort enhances public safety and supports individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, helping build a safer, more connected community across our region.
