Mitochondria are so much more than just energy factories. They're sensors. They monitor your internal environment around the clock, responding to light, temperature, sound, and, crucially, your psychological state.

This isn't fringe thinking. In 2018, Columbia University researcher Martin Picard and Rockefeller University's Bruce McEwen published a landmark framework in Psychosomatic Medicine laying out exactly how this works.

Their model proposes that mitochondria act as biological transducers, converting psychosocial experience into measurable cellular and molecular change.

Chronic psychological stress triggers metabolic and neuroendocrine cascades that structurally and functionally recalibrate mitochondrial networks over time. They called this mitochondrial allostatic load (MAL). Aka, the cellular cost of carrying stress in your body.

The downstream effects are not subtle and include reduced ATP production, altered gene expression, epigenetic modifications, accelerated cellular aging, and a dysregulated immune and endocrine system.

Your mind's thoughts and emotions are a primary input to your body's energy economy.

Without enough cellular energy, cognition suffers, pain increases, and the nervous system loses its ability to regulate. What often looks like a mental health problem has a metabolic signature underneath it.

But the framework cuts both ways. Picard and McEwen explicitly include positive psychological states as inputs capable of recalibrating mitochondrial function in the other direction.

Breathwork, light exposure, nervous system regulation, and deliberate recovery are valid signals that your cells actively read, integrate, and respond to through molecules called mitokines that carry that information system-wide.

Your biology is listening to your life. The question is what you're giving it to work with.

Spinal Flow is a gentle, intuitive healing practice that helps the body unwind, release what it’s been holding, and return to its natural state of ease. Through light touch and deep energetic listening, your system remembers how to soften, open, and realign from the inside out.

This work isn’t about forcing change, it’s about inviting your body back into harmony, allowing your energy to rise, and creating more space for breath, clarity, and calm.

If your nervous system has been asking for relief…
If your body feels tight, heavy, or out of balance…
If your spirit is craving a moment to reconnect with itself—

You’re invited to experience the flow.

Last week in Sedona was inspiring 🌄✨. I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the ancient wisdom and vast capacities of the human mind, body, and spirit. Between the breathtaking red rocks, healing frequencies, incredible community and shared spinal flow treatments, I came away renewed, expanded, and full of insight.

I’m grateful for this experience and excited to return to “work” tomorrow, bringing these teachings, this energy, and a more healed version of myself into everything I do 💛.

Your body remembers… even what your mind has tried to forget.

Every layer of tension, every pattern of holding — it’s not random. It’s your body protecting you, adapting, doing its job with exquisite intelligence.

But what protected you then… can become what holds you back now.

Through Innate Healing Spinal Flow, we gently work with the nervous system — allowing the body to unwind, release, and come back into its natural state of flow.

The shaking you see isn’t force, it’s freedom. It’s her body choosing release. It’s the parasympathetic system taking over and saying, “I’m ready to let this go.”

What moved through her wasn’t just physical, it was emotional, energetic, ancestral.
This session was a recalibration.

✨ When the body feels safe, it heals.

If you’ve been carrying more than you realize… this is your invitation to let it go.

Thank you mama Sedona for this Innate Healing Spinal Flow magic in the red rock frequencies, where the land itself amplifies healing. 🙏 And thank you beautiful Onea.

In 2017, researchers using real-time MRI showed that breath is the primary driver of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow. Each inhale and exhale creates a measurable pressure wave that moves CSF up and down the spinal canal, bathing the brain, clearing metabolic waste, and refreshing the entire nervous system. When breath slows, deepens, or becomes more intentional, those pressure shifts strengthen, so does the pulse of CSF along the spine.

In Spinal Flow terms, every breath becomes a mechanical adjustment. The movement of CSF through the spinal canal influences the body’s innate healing intelligence, softening tension patterns, increasing communication through the central nerve pathways, and enhancing vagal tone. When slow diaphragmatic breathing or breath retention is layered into a Spinal Flow session, the amplified fluid wave helps unlock the spine’s gateways, allowing energy and information to move more freely.

This is why clients often report a rising warmth, tingling, or spreading internal pleasure: the combination of breath, CSF pulsation, and spinal unwinding creates a coherent, upward-moving wave through the entire system.

Through Spinal Flow, we speak directly to the nervous system, creating a felt sense of safety. When the body feels safe, its innate wisdom knows exactly how to soften, unravel, and return to its natural state of flow. In that space, the body begins to release what has been held beneath the surface; tension, emotion, and old protective patterns that have been quietly shaping your life.

Spinal Flow doesn’t force change; it invites remembrance.
It gently restores your original blueprint of safety, connection, and coherence.

In this moment, we’re inviting open communication between the sacral gateway and the cranial base. My lower hand rests lightly over the sacrum, my upper hand hovers at the occiput, feeling for rhythm, where it flows, where it hesitates. There’s no force here. Just contact, presence, and trust.

Everything begins with the breath. As the inhale expands the diaphragm and the exhale softens it, the body starts to remember how to move in tides again. Cerebrospinal spinal fluid begins to move more freely, and the spine unwinds in its own time.

We’re simply restoring the signal line.
When interference clears, the sacrum and occiput, those two distant ends of the spine, start resonating again. The body recognizes…it remembers.

And in that remembering… the whole system opens to healing. ❤️‍🩹
