Family Legacy Continues At 115-Year-Old Yakima Contractor

Central Mechanical Services has been a mainstay in the Yakima Valley since 1909, with its leadership and technical knowledge passing through just two families over six generations. Today, estimator and journeyman plumber Steve Ash is preparing to take the helm from his father, continuing a family legacy that began long before he was born.

“The company originally started with the Lightness family and it went through three generations with them,” Ash said. “My grandfather started working for them, and he ended up buying it and taking it over. I’m actually the third generation for my family.”

The company provides a wide range of plumbing and mechanical services for residential and commercial buildings, as well as industrial, military and medical projects

All the while, family remains at the center of the business. Ash has worked alongside his grandfather, father, sister and cousins. About half of the 12 current employees are family members.

On Saturday, October 5th, the Yakima Vintiques Car Club will host their Annual UNRUN on the show grounds of the Central Washington Agricultural Museum in Union Gap from 9AM - 2PM! Free Admission for Spectators so come on out!

$20 to enter a vehicle which includes a free lunch. Open to all vehicles, no pre-registration, just show up! Goodie Bags and Dash Plaques to the first 75 cars registered. Plus, there will be door prizes and trophies. Come see all the amazing vintage vehicles and take a stroll around our museum grounds!
