Wildfire smoke can impact your health more than you may realize, especially for older adults or anyone with heart and lung conditions. Here are a few quick tips to help you and your loved ones stay safe during smoky days:

➡️ Stay indoors as much as possible, keeping windows and doors closed.
➡️ Run air conditioning or a HEPA filter if you have one to keep indoor air clean.
➡️ Avoid strenuous outdoor activities — especially exercise.
➡️ Use an N95 mask if you must be outside; cloth or surgical masks don’t block harmful particles.
➡️ Stay hydrated to help your body cope with pollutants.
➡️ Check on neighbors and family who may be more vulnerable.

Your health and safety always come first, take precautions and don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider if you experience trouble breathing, chest pain, or dizziness.

Medicare FAQ: Can I change my Medicare plan outside of annual enrollment?
Yes — in certain situations, you can make changes during what’s called a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

You may qualify for an SEP if you:
Move to a new address outside your plan’s service area
Lose your current coverage (through no fault of your own)
Qualify for Medicaid
Enter, leave, or live in a care facility
Experience other specific life events

Each situation has its own rules and timeframes, so it’s important to act quickly if your circumstances change.
