Weāre looking for a little help from our Yakima community
Write a Letter. Change a Life.
At Peach Tree Retirement Center, we have 60 seniorsāmany who were once teachers, students, and writersāwho now rarely receive visitors and often feel forgotten.
So we created something simple but meaningful:
Pages & Petals Young Writers Adventure
Weāre inviting local kids (Kā9th grade) to write a short letter based on a āThen vs. Nowā theme.
These letters will go directly to our residentsāreal people who are truly excited to read them.
This isnāt about perfect writingā¦
Itās about connection, kindness, and making someone feel remembered.
š How it works:
Write one letter (choose from our topic list)
Address an envelope
Mail it in or drop it off
š Each participant:
Receives a small goodie bag
Gets a free Motherās Day gift to give to their mom or a special mother figure
ā Can be done at home
ā Can be a class project
ā Simple and meaningful
ā No need to be present to win
š
Enter by May 1st, 2026 (sooner is even better)
š Optional celebration on Motherās Day at 2:00 PM. Attendance is not required to be a finalist

We are happy to drop off flyers or materials to schools, churches, Day Cares or groups.
If you have kids, grandkids, or know a teacherāthis is a beautiful way to get involved.
Over 60 seniors are waiting to read these letters
š Recognition:
Some students will receive prizes
Selected entries may be featured in the newspaper or on KIMA (first name and story only, with optional additional recognition if approved by a parent or guardian)
Finalists are chosen in a fun and lighthearted way either by drawing names or even a good old-fashioned game of rock, paper, scissors (because honestly, weāll probably love every single story!)
