Becoming a new parent comes with a lot of emotions all at once excitement, exhaustion, joy, worry, adjustment, and usually a hundred questions you did not even know you would have.

For new moms and babies, those early months are about a lot more than just checkups. They are about support, reassurance, recovery, growth, feeding, sleep, healing, and making sure both mom and baby are doing well physically and emotionally.

A few reminders for new parents:
• It is okay to ask questions
• Recovery takes time
• Sleep deprivation affects more than energy levels
• Postpartum mental health matters
• Feeding challenges are common
• You do not have to “figure everything out” alone
• Your health matters too, not just the baby’s

Regular visits help monitor your baby’s growth and development while also giving parents a chance to discuss concerns early instead of sitting at home wondering if something is normal.

Whether you are preparing for your first baby or adjusting to life with a newborn, having a healthcare team you trust can make a huge difference during this season of life.

Reviews like this remind us how much the patient experience matters beyond just appointments and prescriptions.

People want healthcare providers who listen, communicate clearly, take their time, and genuinely care about the people sitting in front of them. Hearing that patients feel supported not only by their provider, but by the entire team, means a great deal to us.

Thank you for trusting Yakima Total Care team with your care over the last two years and for taking the time to share your experience. We truly appreciate it.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice represents a level of courage and selflessness that deserves reflection far beyond a long weekend.

From all of us at Yakima Total Care, we extend our gratitude to the families, service members, and fallen heroes whose sacrifices continue to shape and protect our communities every day.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we remember the true purpose of this holiday.

A lot of medication-related problems are not caused by the medication itself. They come from small mistakes people do not realize they are making.

Some of the most common ones providers see:
• Stopping medication early once symptoms improve
• Skipping doses or doubling up later
• Mixing medications without asking about interactions
• Taking supplements that interfere with prescriptions
• Using expired medications
• Not taking medications as directed with food or water
• Sharing prescriptions with family members
• Forgetting to update providers about medication changes from specialists
• Ignoring side effects instead of discussing them

One of the biggest misconceptions is that every medication issue requires stopping the medication entirely. Sometimes a dosage adjustment, timing change, or alternative option can solve the problem safely.

Your provider and pharmacist are there to help answer questions before small medication mistakes become bigger health issues.

If you have not reviewed your medications with a provider recently, it may be worth scheduling a check-in.

Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the United States and one of the most overlooked.

A lot of people assume skin cancer only affects people who spend all day outside or who get severe sunburns often, but the reality is broader than that. Years of cumulative sun exposure, tanning bed use, outdoor work, recreation, and even routine day-to-day UV exposure can all contribute over time.

In Central Washington, sun exposure adds up quickly, especially during long summers, outdoor sports, agriculture work, hiking, fishing, and time spent on the water.

A few warning signs worth paying attention to:
• A mole that changes shape, color, or size
• A spot that bleeds, crusts, or does not heal
• New growths appearing suddenly
• Irregular borders or uneven coloring
• Persistent rough or scaly patches
• Painful, itchy, or tender skin changes

The most common types of skin cancer include:
• Basal Cell Carcinoma – often appears as a pearly bump or sore that does not heal
• Squamous Cell Carcinoma – may look scaly, crusted, or inflamed
• Melanoma – the most dangerous form, often associated with changing or irregular moles

Early detection matters. When caught early, many skin cancers are highly treatable.

A few ways to help protect yourself:
• Wear sunscreen consistently, even on cloudy days
• Reapply sunscreen during outdoor activities
• Wear hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing
• Avoid tanning beds
• Pay attention to skin changes instead of ignoring them
• Schedule routine skin checks if you have concerns or a history of sun exposure

Your skin changes over time. Paying attention to it is part of taking care of your long-term health.

If something looks different, grows, or simply does not feel right, it is worth bringing up with your healthcare provider.

Visit your provider or visit the ER? Knowing the difference can help you get the right care faster and avoid unnecessary stress.

Schedule a visit with your provider for:
• Flu symptoms
• Fevers
• Medication concerns
• Ongoing headaches
• Minor breathing concerns
• Rashes or skin concerns
• Follow-up care
• Preventive checkups
• Chronic condition management

Go to the ER for:
• Chest pain
• Severe shortness of breath
• Serious injuries or major broken bones
• Stroke symptoms
• Heavy bleeding
• Loss of consciousness
• Severe allergic reactions
• Sudden severe pain

One of the best things you can do for your long-term health is establish care with a provider before something becomes urgent. Having someone who knows your health history, medications, and ongoing concerns makes a major difference over time.

If it has been a while since your last appointment, this is a good reminder to reconnect with your healthcare provider and stay ahead of your health instead of reacting to problems after they escalate.

Congestion, sinus pressure, itchy eyes, coughing, headaches, fatigue, and inflammation can make it hard to focus, sleep, or simply get through the day comfortably.

For some patients, steroid allergy injections may help reduce inflammation and calm the body’s allergic response when symptoms become severe or difficult to manage. These injections work by helping decrease the inflammation causing many allergy symptoms, allowing patients to breathe easier and feel relief faster.

If seasonal allergies are wearing you down this year, Yakima Total Care is here to help you explore treatment options and find relief.

High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because many people don’t realize they have it until serious complications begin.

Headaches, fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, or sometimes no symptoms at all, regular checkups matter more than people think.

A simple blood pressure check can help catch issues early and protect your long-term health.

If it’s been a while since your last wellness visit, May is a good reminder to schedule one.

Arthritis Awareness Month is a reminder that not all joint pain is the same.

There are several types of arthritis, each affecting the body differently. Osteoarthritis is the most common and comes from wear and tear over time. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks its own joints. Gout is caused by a buildup of uric acid and often shows up suddenly with intense pain. Psoriatic arthritis is linked to psoriasis and can affect both skin and joints.

Understanding the type of arthritis you’re dealing with is key to finding the right treatment and improving your quality of life.

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing joint pain, stiffness, or swelling, it may be time to get answers. Total Care Clinics is here to help you take the next step.
