Somatic Unwinding / Teaching Through Gentle Handling

Somatic Slow Movement-Based Classes, Personal, Semi-Private Lessons
…bring comfort and pain-free movement by practicing focusing awareness through sensing the beginning of movements, listening to the feeling produced by the movements, pausing to rest for a moment, noticing the changes from that small beginning, then returning to creating only moving that feels good! Net Effects…range from quieting mind and body (restoring our parasympathetic nervous state), increasing flow of oxygenated blood, reduces blood pressure, lowers resting heart rate, entrains the vagus nerve (the primary communication pathway between the brain and organ function) and engages The Relaxation Response, Identified by Herbert Benson, MD cardiologist at Harvard. Beginning movement in this way is a soothing experience as it deepens the ability to rest. All the while, conscious breathing awareness develops within and informs our skills for deepening The Relaxation Response for the entire nervous system which continues to be insulted these days by unmitigated stress, repeated injuries, surgeries and life's ongoing emotional traumas. Soothing Somatic lessons develop compassionate regard through the calming effects of rejuvenating our parasympathetic nervous state. Enlisting the PNS is essential for healing to take hold and to flourish. Yang Style T'ai Chi
…improves physical balance and leg strength while stabilizing the mind for clear and quiet contemplation. Meditation and Restorative Movement
…integrates Mindfulness with the Somatic inquiry into movement and rest.

Just listen to the truth of who we have become.

Just listen to the truth of who we have become.

I have chills. RFK predicted a day where American society would need a great “cleansing.” We have arrived. Senseless, daily murder is a symptom of a deep sickness. Until we are willing to face our own institutions — the ones that deprive people of hope, that fill their bodies with poison, thei...

Ok, spiritual power calms the discursive nature of mind and when one has tasted that, if only for a moment, the world loses its seduction and the mind is exposed as transitory.

“I think that we are all being prepared — all of us — to serve in the capacity of reinvesting our society with Living Spirit. And that happens through our becoming Living Spirit — because the only thing you can really transmit to another person is your being. The fancy words don’t mean a thing.”

Complementary consulting. . .allows for developing courses of action for transforming difficulty - that which tethers us from feeling our best - to ease and occasional peace of mind for ourselves and for those with whom we share our lives. Every little habit is important. How many “No’s” make up your thinking every day? Can nutrition heal? What about environmental toxins in our homes? How does stress challenge our sleep? What can I do?

Public Classes.....develop pathways for self-improvement and skills for healing from illnesses, trauma or self-doubt. This understanding, this knowledge, teaches us how we can heal through day to day self-care, from the ancient traditions of yoga, t’ai chi and 20th century movement awareness practices.

Mindful Awareness Practices.....evoke the relaxation response, which creates the environment for engaging healing from whatever trauma may be causing the present symptoms. Daily insults cause unmitigated, continual stress, whether it comes in the form of malfunctioning body parts, emotional upheaval, or food and lifestyle. . .often, all three.

There is no goal but the path and when you are on the path, you are approaching the goal. Our intention is to co-create a pathway for healing, via teaching the methods and essential elements of yoga, t’ai chi and somatic movement education . . . and through touch - either swedish / heated bamboo with Sharon or somatic neuromuscular balancing with Michael, as primary therapeutic protocols.
