Small neighborhoods, each with 38 or fewer residents, serving kitchen and dining space along with two lounges with fireplaces that provide an intimate living environment where residents can enjoy a beautiful bluff setting.

Avera Sister James Care Center has been recognized as the 2026 Outstanding Facility of the Year - and we couldn't be more proud of our team of caregivers for the community they create alongside the residents they serve.
Thank you to the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) for this award given out during the 2026 Post-Acute Partners in Care Conference, held March 31-April 1 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
The Outstanding Facility Award recognizes a facility that exemplifies excellence in patient care, innovation and community engagement. This honor celebrates organizations that prioritize a patient-centered approach, uphold rigorous safety standards, and foster a culture of continuous staff development and compassionate service.
The award presentation acknowledged Avera Sister James Care Center's sustained clinical excellence and strong interdisciplinary approach; a performance improvement initiative that reduced resident falls by 13.3%; and the ongoing commitment to staff education and leadership development.
"Deeply rooted in its community, Avera Sister James Care Center honors each resident’s individuality and preferences — creating an environment where residents and families feel respected, supported and truly at home," SDAHO noted.
We are honored by this award and the support we receive from our wider community of resident families and friends, as well as many partners across the region.

We participated in the 3rd grade Health Fair and shared with the kids that as we age we continue to grow and have fun. We had pictures of the events that we do and had an aging app so the kids could see what they may look like as they age.
