October is ADHD and dyslexia awareness month. This is a wonderful quote to remind us that we are people first with unique traits and strengths. Diagnoses are only meant to serve as tools for treatment and acceptance, they do not define us.

There is a misconception that individuals suffering from ADHD are underweight. This may be the case for some younger children, but they are much more likely to be overweight as they age.

A: What is the relationship between and obesity/eating habits?

Q: Adults with ADHD have unhealthy eating habits, leading to overweight/obesity, with the odds ratio increasing with age. They are also tend to experience eating disorders more often.

So many disabilities such as learning challenges, ADHD, and autism have such a significant impact on overall quality of life. It is so important to identify specific developmental strengths and concerns to better be able to create awareness, build self esteem, and offer treatment options.
