Did you know that early braces were made of 🏅gold because it is a fairly flexible metal and could be readily stretched in such a way to produce the desired path for a tooth. Since gold is fairly soft, patients had to see orthodontists more often for more frequent adjustments. You may have heard the saying, 👄“A mouth full of gold.” This references both early cavity fillings and the gold used to make the earliest braces.

DYK these are some of the most common ortho related injuries that happen during the summertime?
1. Loose or broken brackets and wires🏈
Usually caused by biting into hard foods (like ice or hard candies), or getting hit in the mouth during sports.
2. Poking wires🧊
Often results after eating hard foods or playing contact sports.
3. Lost or broken retainers/aligners🗑️
Typically happens when retainers/aligners are thrown away, something is dropped on them, or they are warped from the summer heat.
4. Loose bands or spacers🦷
Can loosen or fall out due to improper eating habits or eating foods you shouldn't be (with braces).
