During pregnancy, hormones like progesterone slow down bile flow, and after birth, that thickened bile can lead to gallstones — especially when stress, nutrient depletion, and drastic diet changes are involved.

Your gallbladder plays a key role in fat digestion and hormone balance, so supporting it before and after birth really matters.

Here are a few gentle ways to care for it naturally:
🌿 Eat regular, balanced meals (no fasting or skipping).
🥥 Use healthy fats your body can process easily — coconut oil, butter, olive oil.
🍋 Support bile flow with lemon water or gentle bitter foods.
💛 Keep blood sugar stable — your liver and gallbladder will thank you.

Your body doesn’t suddenly “break” after birth — it’s asking for support.

We say it all the time — “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” But here’s the part we forget: you’re allowed to refill it.

Sometimes that refill looks like saying no, asking for help, or sitting in silence while your coffee’s still hot.
Other times, it’s deeper — warm, mineral-rich meals, steady blood sugar, and postpartum care that truly supports your recovery.

You don’t have to do it all alone. Hiring a postpartum doula isn’t a luxury — it’s a way to protect your peace, your healing, and your ability to show up for the ones you love.

Refilling isn’t selfish. It’s how you keep showing up with strength, grace, and presence.

Postpartum wisdom says to avoid cold foods — and that is absolutely true. Warm, cooked meals help digestion and support healing.

But sometimes, your body asks for fresh. And that’s okay.

Tonight was grass-fed steak strips, pumpkin gnocchi in a creamy pumpkin sauce, and a simple side salad with herb dressing. A little balance of grounding warmth and crisp greens — because nourishment isn’t about following rigid rules, it’s about listening. Foods like salads can be tough to digest, especially postpartum. But if your body can handle it? I say go for it.

Healing happens best when we feed both body and peace of mind.

Motherhood is demanding, yes. But exhaustion that lingers past the newborn haze usually means your body’s running on empty — low minerals, blood sugar crashes, or stress hormones doing overtime.

You weren’t designed to just “push through.” You were designed to be sustained — through rest, nourishment, and real support.

Start with food that actually fuels you, and don’t be afraid to ask for help (that’s where a postpartum doula can make all the difference).

These are the moments that remind me why I do this work — tables full of nourishment, tiny toes tucked under blankets, and mothers learning to rest in the goodness of God’s design.

Last month I had the joy of supporting two women in their postpartum seasons — one welcoming her second little one, the other embracing life with her third. Each home carried its own rhythm of love, exhaustion, and grace, and each visit felt like sacred ground.

Birth is miraculous, but the slow, steady becoming that follows is where God so often whispers, ‘I am with you.’

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
— Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) Reminder that the real work of wellness is quiet. Drinking the water. Eating the meal. Getting the sunlight. Choosing rest instead of guilt. The small things are the healing.

In the postpartum season, rest isn’t a luxury—it’s biology. Your body is rebuilding blood volume, healing tissue, balancing hormones, and nourishing your baby.

And here’s something few people realize: women actually require more sleep than men.
Our hormonal rhythms, reproductive work, and emotional load all increase the body’s need for deep rest. Skipping it isn’t strength—it’s stress.

🕊️ Rest is your body’s work right now.
Honor it like nourishment.

💛 Motherhood asks so much of us, and sometimes the gentlest thing we can do is slow down and honor our own recovery. Today, take a deep breath, rest when you can, and remember: every small moment of care is part of your healing journey.

✨As a postpartum doula, I walk alongside you during these first weeks—helping with meal prep, gentle newborn support, holding your baby so you can rest, and simply being there to encourage and guide you through your recovery.
