For years, I had battled being overweight, especially after suffering a personal tragedy in 1986, where my 21 month old son was killed in an accident. Due to trying to deal with my circumstances on my own and not relying on the power of my heavenly Father I failed. As a result, I was over weight, had no energy and felt a sense of desperation on a regular basis and this went on for a very long time

. In 2003, I walked into an aerobics class at the same gym I teach now, when it was called "The Rock", and the class was hosted by a lovely 50+ year old lady named Barbara Brister. Barbara invited me to stay and even tho I had been athletic all my life, I struggled through the class and at the end she came and talked to me, told me I was beautiful and how great I did and she encouraged me to continue and with her encouragement, I did. I always admired her as she was 50 and fabulous. I told myself that one day I would be the 50 year old woman teaching the class. Today that is my reality. Along with my physical exercise, I began to exercise my spiritual muscles as well, and life took a complete turn. That is why, I understand the struggle of weight loss, I understood the struggle in general, as I have been there. But just as I was motivated by someone, I want to be the motivator. My faith in Jesus Christ as my healer, my deliverer and my provider, along with my personal drive to be the best I can be, has brought me to this point and I am passionate about helping and inspiring others, in the same way. With God all things are possible if we only believe. Through Him we can do all things as He strengthens us. Through His grace, I bring my story and my passion to you. I want to inspire you both physically and spiritually to be all you can be! The word says "we are His masterpiece" and I want to help you become the healthiest and the best you can be. You will work hard. I will push your limits in every fashion. But if you will stay committed and finish your race, you will get the results you aspire. I guarantee it.

Today is your day!!! Make it a great one! Go for a walk or a run if you can! Just get up and move!! Go outside in the sunshine, a natural source of Vitamin D!! Be healthy minded! You can do some very simple and easy things every day that will make a huge impact in your life. Go for a walk, eat a ripe juicy apple, get some sunshine, take a nap, say a prayer, and find 10 things in your life that you’re thankful for. Just a few simple steps that promote a positive attitude with a healthy outcome!

So tonight I held my plank for 6 minutes! While that’s good, I have held 7. See I dropped off planking regularly. My last half marathon run I held a 9 minute mile all the way. In my last leisure run last Sunday I ran 10:32 because I had slacked off competitive running! What’s the point here? You will loose what you don’t use. Stay consistent! Keep pushing! Keep challenging yourself!! I’m back to planking will have my 7 minutes back by next week. Back to competitive running too. Running a half marathon in Dallas this December, the weekend before my 65th birthday. I’ll never grow old or weak only wiser and stronger. The joy of the Lord is my strength! 💪🏻❤️❤️

I love everything about Sunday - from Sunday praise to Sunday lunch to Sunday football and my Sunday long run. According to Runkeeper this was my 2nd longest run, weighted run. Keep pushing, when things get tough, push harder, keep challenging yourself to be and do better. Today has been a great day 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️❤️

Recently, I have received several calls about personal training for the summer. Right now I do not have availability but will possibly have 2 openings for Yazoo in June. In Yazoo I train at TCTI Fitness with Jeff N Kayla Curtis. Several have asked if you have to be a member of the gym to train and the answer to that is technically no, but you would have to sign a waiver and pay a daily fee. However my recommendation is if you’re going to do this and be serious and consistent about it your gym membership should be a priority and in my opinion, it is a necessity.

I have also been asked about other “personal trainers” and I do not offer my opinions on other trainers and whether they are or are not certified, but it is definitely my recommendation that you work with someone who is educated and carries the necessary credentials to get the best results and reduce liability. Experience is good, but the best results require experience and education because everyone is not the same and what works for one does not necessarily work for all, that’s a huge misnomer in the fitness world.

Jeff and Kayla are elite forces in the fitness business and I have been a trainer with them since they have been in the fitness business here in Yazoo City.  I highly recommend their gym and any questions that you might have about my qualifications or the gym they would be happy to answer.

Currently, I have 6 levels of certifications in the fitness realm- Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Step Aerobics Instructor, Certified Spin Instructor, Certified Kickboxing Instructor, Certified Group Class Instructor and I am a Certified Sports Nutritionist. I am currently working on two advanced certifications (spin and group) that I will have completed by the end of June. I am also a Critical Care Paramedic and my medical background helps ensure your safety. Lastly and most importantly, I am a faith based instructor and life coach. Health is from the inside out not the outside in. Many people can look great on the outside and be completely unhealthy on the inside. I have a strong belief in walking the walk and not just talking to talk. I will go ahead and admit it, I am a tough trainer and I do not sugarcoat. I do not allow you to make excuses and justifications for not doing what you have agreed to do and what I know you are capable of doing, so please consider all of these before you consider hiring me as your Personal Trainer.

If you would like a taste of the type of exercises that I emphasize the most, I am teaching Thursday night at 5:30. Feel free to drop in and experience one of my classes. All classes are free to members, and any nonmember can sign a waiver and pay a guest fee to join a class.

I know we are having to deal with extreme heat right now but we can still get outside in the early morning or later evening and enjoy a time of exercise! Remember your health doesn’t take vacations or time off! Stay as consistent as you can with your exercise program! I have a half marathon coming up in December in San Antonio and I am training now!! Being prepared is a big part of being successful! Exercise is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle! Live long and live strong! Proper nutrition and daily exercise will help you do just that!
