Mr. Wince is currently receiving skilled occupational therapy services in the long term care setting to address deficits related to generalized muscle weakness and impaired bilateral coordination, which impact his ability to perform activities of daily living. Treatment is focused on improving upper extremity strength, endurance, and coordinated use of both hands during functional tasks. 🧡💙🧡💙

Therapeutic activities include simulated dressing exercises designed to promote motor planning, sequencing, and bilateral integration necessary for donning and doffing clothing. Emphasis is placed on task specific training, repetition, and graded progression of activities to enhance functional independence and safety!

Mr. Wince continues to demonstrate the need for skilled OT services due to ongoing limitations in strength, coordination, and task efficiency. He is making gradual progress toward his established goals, with improved participation and increased tolerance during functional activities. ✨

Continued therapy remains essential to maximize independence with self care tasks and to improve overall quality of life!

Mr. Butler is currently receiving skilled physical therapy services in the long term care setting following a left above knee amputation. Treatment is focused on improving overall strength, postural control, and dynamic standing balance in preparation for future prosthetic training and mobility. 💙🧡

His therapy program includes progressive therapeutic exercises targeting core stability and lower extremity strength, along with neuromuscular re education to improve balance, weight shifting, and coordination while standing. ✨

Mr. Butler continues to benefit from skilled PT services to address deficits in balance, endurance, and functional mobility, all of which are essential for safe prosthetic use and fall risk reduction. He is making steady progress toward his goals, demonstrating improved tolerance to standing activities and increased ability to maintain balance during dynamic tasks!

Ongoing therapy remains essential to maximize his independence, support prosthetic readiness, and enhance his overall quality of life. 💪

Working with Mr. Wince this week in long term care , we’ve been focusing on improving independence during self-feeding. Due to spatial neglect, he experiences difficulty accurately bringing his hand to his mouth, often resulting in spillage. 💙🧡💙🧡

Through targeted occupational therapy interventions, we’re practicing controlled hand-to-mouth movements to improve coordination, awareness, and efficiency during meals. These small, repetitive tasks play a big role in restoring dignity, promoting independence, and enhancing overall quality of life.

Progress isn’t always loud—but it’s happening, one intentional movement at a time. ✨

Falls are not a normal part of aging, they’re often preventable with the right strategies in place. As occupational therapy practitioners, our goal is to help individuals stay safe, independent, and confident in their daily routines. ✨

Here are a few simple but powerful ways to reduce fall risk at home:
✔️ Clear walkways of clutter, loose rugs, and cords
✔️ Improve lighting—especially in hallways and bathrooms
✔️ Wear supportive, non-slip footwear (even indoors)
✔️ Install grab bars and always use handrails on stairs
✔️ Stay active to maintain strength, balance, and coordination

Small changes can make a big difference. Safety supports independence—and independence supports quality of life.

💬 If you or a loved one are at risk for falls, occupational therapy can help assess your environment and build a personalized plan to keep you moving safely.

A little fun, a lot of smiles, and memories made 💙

Today, our residents had a wonderful visit from St. Joseph Hospice, who hosted a fun “penny auction”! With just a few pennies, residents were able to bid on goodies like snacks, body sprays, room sprays, and hygiene items.

The excitement in the room was contagious, and everyone had the best time choosing their favorite items—and even sharing ideas for what they’d like to see next time!

Moments like these bring joy, connection, and a little extra sparkle to the day ✨

In the skilled nursing facility (SNF) setting, understanding the difference between a CVA (cerebrovascular accident) and a TIA (transient ischemic attack) is essential for appropriate rehabilitation planning and patient outcomes. 🧠

A CVA, commonly known as a stroke, results in permanent brain damage due to a prolonged interruption of blood flow, often leading to lasting deficits such as hemiparesis, impaired balance, cognitive dysfunction, and speech difficulties. In contrast, a TIA is considered a “mini-stroke” and involves a temporary disruption of blood flow, with symptoms typically resolving within minutes to hours and no permanent damage visible on imaging. However, TIAs should be taken seriously, as they are strong predictors of a future CVA.

Within the SNF, patients recovering from a CVA often require comprehensive, long-term rehabilitation, while TIA patients may need shorter stays focused on prevention, monitoring, and functional reassessment. Occupational Therapy (OT) plays a key role in both populations by addressing activities of daily living (ADLs), upper extremity function, and cognitive strategies to improve independence and safety. Physical Therapy (PT) focuses on restoring mobility, strength, gait, and balance, especially for CVA patients who may present with significant motor deficits. Speech Therapy (ST) is essential for patients with communication impairments, cognitive-linguistic deficits, and dysphagia.

Interdisciplinary collaboration between OT, PT, and ST ensures a holistic, patient-centered approach, maximizing functional outcomes and reducing the risk of rehospitalization. While CVA rehabilitation often emphasizes recovery of lost function, TIA management in the SNF setting focuses more on risk factor modification, education, and prevention strategies.

Ultimately, early therapy intervention in both conditions supports improved quality of life, safety, and independence for patients transitioning back to the community. ♥️

Occupational therapy is more than treatment—it’s partnership.

A client-centered approach means we don’t just treat diagnoses… we support people. Every individual brings their own goals, values, routines, and story—and that’s where real progress begins.

✨ Why it matters:
• Care is tailored to what actually matters to the client
• Clients are empowered to take an active role in their recovery
• Outcomes improve because therapy aligns with real-life needs
• Independence and confidence grow beyond the clinic

In Occupational Therapy, success isn’t defined by checkboxes—it’s defined by meaningful participation in life.

When we put the client at the center, we don’t just restore function—we restore purpose. 💙
