Labor Day is more than a holiday—it’s a gentle reminder that rest is part of being human.

Taking time to slow down isn’t laziness, it’s mental health maintenance. Even a few intentional hours of quiet, reading, a walk, or just sitting with a cup of tea can reset your mind, ease anxiety, and lift your mood.

Give yourself permission to rest today. Your mental health deserves it.

DUE TO THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY, the September YS Caregiver Support Group will meet on Monday, Sept. 8.

The Greene County Council on Aging is facilitating a free Caregiver Support Group at the First Presbyterian Church, 314 Xenia Avenue in Yellow Springs.

The goal of the support group is to bring together people who are facing common issues to share experiences, offer support, encouragement, and comfort to the other group members, and receive the same in return. The group is open to individuals caring for an older loved one, friend, or neighbor.

For more information on this support group, and other services and resources for caregivers and seniors, please contact the Greene County Council on Aging at 937-376-5486 or YourFriends@gccoa.org or the Yellow Springs Senior Center at 937-767-5751 or info@ysseniors.org.

National Grief Awareness Day – August 30
Grief is not something we move past. It’s something we learn to carry, in our own way and in our own time. This day is a reminder that grief takes many forms, and every story of loss deserves to be acknowledged with care and respect.

If you’re grieving, recently or long ago, know that your experience is valid and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I offer support for adults across Ohio facing loss and life transitions, with space to explore your feelings at your own pace. Call 937-321-9794

Children’s lives are touched by trauma on a regular basis, no matter how much parents or teachers try to keep the “bad things” away. Instead of shielding children from the dangers, violence or tragedies around us, psychologists suggest adults talk honestly to kids about what is happening.

Managing Summer’s End

The transition from summer to fall can feel heavier than expected, longer to-do lists, school schedules, or just the shift in daylight. Anxiety and mild depression can spike during these changes, even for adults who usually manage well.

Simple ways to support yourself:
Take 10 minutes daily for mindful breathing.
Schedule a short walk outside to reset your mind.
Write down one small intention for the day rather than tackling everything at once.

Gentle self-care during seasonal shifts is not indulgent, it’s essential.

Change doesn’t have to come in big leaps. Sometimes the most meaningful growth happens through small, steady shifts like practicing mindfulness, setting gentle boundaries, or simply pausing to breathe.

Progress in therapy often looks like noticing what you need and honoring it, one step at a time. If you're interested to learn more, email me: tracy.hunt@turninginwardllc.com
