Aid for Buddhist Nuns in Sagaing Myanmar
Since 2001, Myanmar (Burma) has been ravaged by civil war, and in March 2025, there was a 7.7 earthquake that caused terrible damage, especially in Sagaing, where it was centered. Sagaing Hill on the Irrawaddy River is the traditional home of many temples and monasteries where Buddhist Nuns and Monks have studied and meditated for centuries.
The Yellow Springs Dharma Center has close ties with this area due to our enduring relationship with Sister Molini and Sister Dhammavijaya, who have both studied in Sagaing. The sisters spent four months at the YS Dharma Center in 2004 & 2006. In 2008 they returned and donated a beautiful teak statue of the Buddha to the Center. Sister Molini had the statue carved in Mandalay especially for the Center. When the sisters visited in 2008, they dedicated this statue, which now resides in the Center’s meditation hall.
At this time, the Buddhist Nuns in Sagaing are in great need of assistance. The area is short of food and medical supplies and their monastery buildings are in need of major repairs. The Yellow Springs Dharma Center is making a donation to assist with their recovery. It is very difficult to send funds to Myanmar, but we have arranged for the funds to be personally delivered to Sister Molin in July. If you would like to also donate for the Nuns recovery, we will be happy to have your donation delivered to Sagaing as well.
If you wish to make a contribution for the nuns at Sagaing, please mail a check (note it is for the nuns in Sagaing) made out to the Yellow Springs Dharma Center before July 8. (Yellow Springs Dharma Center, 502 Livermore St., Yellow Springs, Ohio, 45387). The Center is a 501c3, so any donation will be tax deductible. You may also use the PayPal button on the Center web page (ysdharma.org), but please be sure to also send an email (info@ysdharma.org) to let us know your donation is for the nuns at Sagaing.
Please be sure that your donation for the Nuns reaches the Dharma Center before July 8.
This is an opportunity to acknowledge our gratitude to those who have preserved and protected the Buddhist teachings over the centuries, so that we and all beings may benefit from them at this time.
With All Good Wishes,
The Yellow Springs Dharma Center Board of Trustees
