This weekend, the New Moon arrives on the Autumn Equinox; a rare alignment of darkness and balance, seed and harvest. The equinox teaches us proportion: night and day equal, inhale and exhale matched. In yoga this balance is the blueprint- we measure and fold, not for perfection, but to find the harmony hidden in form. The New Moon in Virgo asks us to refine. To empty so that we can begin again. To tend to the small details: the rituals, the habits, and the daily rhythms that become the architecture of our lives.

When a New Moon and equinox coincide, it is a threshold. A moment to sit squarely in your seat, to acknowledge both endings and beginnings, and to orient yourself toward clarity. In this weekend’s practice with , we’ll use form, breath, and ritual to mark the season’s turn.

Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) are like greeting the day with your whole body. They warm you, ground you, and connect breath with movement. Here’s a step-by-step guide to a sun sal variation so you can flow with ease:

1️⃣ High Mountain Pose → Root and rise
2️⃣ Forward Fold → Release tension
3️⃣ Halfway Lift → Lengthen
4️⃣ Plank → Chaturanga → Build strength
5️⃣ Upward Dog → Shine your heart
6️⃣ Downward Dog → Hips high, heels heavy
7️⃣ Step forward → Halfway Lift → Fold

Yoga teaches us that nothing exists in isolation: each breath woven into the next, each posture supported by what came before and what follows after. In the same way, engaging in our community is the extension of our practice off the mat.

To care for one another, to stand for justice, to nurture the well-being of our neighbors- this is yoga in its most expansive form. Community care becomes a kind of collective pranayama, a shared breath that sustains the whole.

When we gather, speak, and act with integrity, we practice union. When we move for change, we embody balance. The yoga of community is the reminder that our liberation is bound together, and that every action is part of a greater sequence of healing.

This weekend’s Full Moon rises at the same time eclipse season begins, a threshold moment where the familiar can get rearranged. Eclipses are not business-as-usual. They open corridors of change and remind us to slow down, stay observant, and listen differently. Instead of rushing to manifest, we pause. Instead of forcing outcomes, we let pattern reveal itself. This mirrors the way we practice:

In Yoga, the breath is your blueprint. Just as a house needs windows and doors to move air, your body needs a steady rhythm to circulate energy, clear out the old, and let in the new.

🌀 Think of the inhale as drawing the curtains wide- inviting light, life, and possibility into the room.

🌬️ Think of the exhale as sweeping the floor- removing clutter, making space for what’s next.

👉 Try this simple practice:
Sit tall with your spine like the central column of a house.

Inhale for 4 counts, pause for 4.
Exhale for 6 counts, pause for 2.
Repeat 5–10 rounds.

Notice how the “architecture” of your inner space feels refreshed: clear windows, open rooms, and a stronger foundation.

Off the mat, you’ll find her walking in the woods, returning to the serenity she invokes with her favorite prayer: “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

Some days the spark isn’t there. That’s real life, and that is why we practice. Yoga isn’t about always feeling inspired. It’s about showing up, even when the energy is flat, and trusting that breath + structure will carry you back to yourself.
