💊 Could Advil PM Increase Dementia Risk?

Some researchers are raising concerns that regular use of nighttime pain relievers like Advil PM—which combines ibuprofen with diphenhydramine (Benadryl)—may slightly raise the risk of cognitive decline over time.

🧠 Why? Diphenhydramine has strong anticholinergic effects, meaning it blocks a key brain chemical (acetylcholine) that's essential for memory and learning. Taking these types of medications long-term, especially in older adults, could lead to a buildup of cognitive side effects.

✅ What you can do:

If you're using Advil PM for sleep or pain relief, consider switching to safer alternatives like NSAIDs without the PM component, or explore non-drug options for insomnia (like relaxation techniques or cognitive-behavioral therapy for sleep).

Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your meds—especially over-the-counter ones.

Have you ever used Advil PM or other nighttime pain meds? How did you find the effects? Share your story! 👇

Advil is many people's go-to for occasional aches and pains. However, one formulation of Advil that's geared toward sleep could increase your dementia risk.

Did you know there are specific vision requirements to apply for or renew your driver’s license? 🚗👀
To pass the vision test, you must have a visual acuity of at least 20/40 in one or both eyes, with or without corrective lenses.

Vision Restrictions for Drivers:

If you need corrective lenses to pass the test, a "B" restriction will be placed on your license.
If you require telescopic lenses or have low vision, specific restrictions may apply, such as a "TELESCOPIC LENSES" or "DAYLIGHT DRIVING ONLY" restriction.

Ensure your vision is up to the task—visit us for a DMV Vision Screening and get ready to hit the road!

☕️ Could Black Coffee Help You Live Longer?

A new study suggests that drinking black coffee may have surprising health benefits, including potentially boosting longevity! Researchers found that moderate coffee drinkers tend to have a lower risk of certain diseases and may live longer compared to those who don’t drink coffee.

If you love your morning cup of black coffee, this might be great news! Just remember to enjoy it plain—without too much sugar or cream—for the best benefits.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy coffee? Let us know below! 👇

Researchers at Tufts University have found that drinking coffee with little to no sugar or cream may lower the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Black coffee drinkers also have a 14% lower risk of all-cause mortality compared to non-coffee drinkers, the study shows.

🌈 What’s Hiding in Your Food? The Truth About Artificial Dyes

Did you know that many of your favorite snacks and drinks get their bright colors from synthetic dyes? These artificial colors—like Red 40 and Yellow 5—are found in everything from candy to cereals and even some beverages.

But here's the catch: studies have linked these dyes to potential health risks, especially in children. Some research suggests they might contribute to hyperactivity and other behavioral issues. While the FDA has deemed them safe in small amounts, there’s growing concern about their long-term effects.

In response, some companies are making changes. For instance, Nestlé plans to eliminate artificial colors from its products by 2026. Similarly, Kraft Heinz is working on removing synthetic dyes from items like Kool-Aid and Jell-O by 2027. These moves come as part of a broader push to make our food safer and more natural.

So, next time you're shopping, take a moment to check the ingredients list. Opting for products with natural colors—like beet juice or turmeric—can be a healthier choice. Your body will thank you! 💚

🧀 Can Cheese Really Cause Nightmares?

Some people swear that eating cheese before bed leads to vivid or unsettling dreams. But why might that be?

Cheese contains compounds that can affect brain activity and sleep patterns, potentially making your dreams more intense or memorable. Plus, the fat and protein in cheese might slightly disrupt digestion, which can also influence sleep quality.

If you notice strange or vivid dreams after a late-night snack of cheese, it might be worth trying to avoid it before bedtime to see if your sleep improves.

Do you have any favorite late-night snacks that affect your dreams? Share your experiences!

🥦 If you have ulcerative colitis, watch out for insoluble fiber!

While fiber is essential, insoluble fiber—found in whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and the skins of fruits & veggies—can worsen symptoms during UC flares, like cramping, bloating, and diarrhea.

✅ Key tips:

• Reduce insoluble fiber during flare-ups, and go easy on foods like whole-grain breads, raw broccoli stems, nuts, seeds, corn, berries, and legumes.
• Focus on soluble fiber instead—think peeled apples, bananas, oats, cooked carrots—and try cooking or blending foods to make them gentler.
• Once in remission, gradually reintroduce fiber, aiming for a balanced intake with guidance from a dietitian.

💡 Bottom line: Insoluble fiber’s coarse nature can irritate an inflamed colon, while soluble fiber supports healing and gut health. Tailoring fiber intake to your flare-up status can make a real difference.

It can trigger symptoms and make flare-ups harder to handle.
