Yesterday, we had the privilege of visiting the Community Center of Mount Pleasant, where we connected with local residents and shared valuable resources 💙. Thanks to Westchester County Legislator Margaret Cunzio and Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi for hosting us and enabling us to connect with their constituents at the event.

Through the Community Health Advocates (CHA) program, we provide FREE, one-on-one assistance and community education to help individuals understand and access health insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, supplemental plans, and more.

We were proud to offer guidance on coverage options and support community members in finding the care they need, helping build a healthier, more informed community.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Westchester Disabled on the Move celebrates women who have championed the rights and visibility of people with disabilities. 💙

✨ Judy Heumann (1947–2023) – Often called the “Mother of Disability Rights,” the Brooklyn native fought discrimination after being denied a NYC teaching license for being a wheelchair user. She later became a leader of the historic 504 Sit-in, helping secure civil rights protections for people with disabilities.

✨ Senator Tammy Duckworth – An Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, she became the first woman with a disability elected to both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, and continues to advocate for veterans’ healthcare and parental rights.

✨ Dorothea Lange – The iconic Depression-era photographer, who lived with the effects of polio, brought powerful empathy to her images of people living on the margins. Her work is currently on display at the Hudson River Museum in the exhibit Modern Women / Modern Vision.

These women remind us that disability history is women’s history—and their legacy continues to inspire the fight for equity and inclusion. ♿✨
