Just your friendly reminder to add some SELF LOVE into your day (especially with Valentines Day just around the corner!)
I used to think that self love & care meant spa days & bath bombs ๐Ÿ›€... and while I still appreciate those things, Iโ€™ve discovered there are other, more significant ways to take care of my mind, body, & soul.

Your Self Care List: โค๏ธ
๐Ÿ”น Forgive yourself. You are human and will be making mistakes for the rest of your life. Itโ€™s ok. Learn from yours, forgive others for theirs, and then move on.
๐Ÿ”น Stop comparing yourself (or what you have) to anyone else. All that does is rob you of whatever joy & appreciation you DESERVE to feel. Weโ€˜re all on our own path, and we donโ€™t know what obstacles others may be facing.
๐Ÿ”น There is no such thing as perfection. And besides, perfect is boring. Accept your imperfections, learn to embrace them, because thatโ€™s what makes you unique and different from everyone else.
๐Ÿ”น Keep your distance from negative energy. Negativity is contagious. Donโ€™t let anyone take away your happiness or bring you down.
๐Ÿ”น Slow down. Breathe. Thereโ€™s no rush. Just because this world moves at an intense pace, doesnโ€™t mean you have to.
๐Ÿ”น Accept the things you cannot change. Fighting them is a waste of your energy.
๐Ÿ”น Its ok to not be OK. Youโ€™ll have good days and crappy days, and thatโ€™s just the way it goes. Itโ€™s ok to be down if thatโ€™s how youโ€™re feeling... let it run its course, and then let it go.
๐Ÿ”น You are loved. You are enough. Right now, right here, just the way you are. Stop hiding your magic from the world. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ โค๏ธ

Cobra or upward facing dog and what the difference ?
First of all, cobra is one of those poses that we do multiple times during our practice and most of the people do it incorrectly. I notice that it is usually performed as a reverse push-up exercise where we use our arm strength to lift upper body up with any engagement of our back muscles. As a result shoulders crunch up towards ears and we put excessive pressure onto lower back. My suggestion is to try pulling hands towards fit, lift half way up, find space across chest and strong muscular engagement through the middle back.

Secondly, upward facing dog tends to be lazy where we donโ€™t put enough effort into pushing the floor away and lifting the chest up to find space and length.

And finally, upward facing dog is considered to be more advanced backbend rather than cobra. So once achieved, cobra pose seems to be left behind. I believe that these are two completely different poses that have many benefits. So I practice both of them.

We all know the drill where we kick up to a handstand using the wall behind us.โ โ €

The problem with this is that it pushes you into a banana back, which is not the alignment you're aiming for with handstand.โ โ €
โ โ €
So, instead of practicing the left most picture, try the right...โ โ €
โ โ €
Make sure you're about a shins distance away from the wall.โ โ €
โ โ €
Then kick up as you would for the left picture, but once you're there, bend your knees to 90 degrees so that your knees stack over the rest of your body.โ โ €
โ โ €
From there, you can practice feeling correct line alignment.โ โ €
โ โ €
You can also work at extending one leg straight up to complete the line and slowly bring your other leg up as well to practice balance.โ โ €

I know it can feel like Yoga is only for the super strong or super flexi but thatโ€™s yogamyth !!!

โ˜•๏ธHere is a guided stretch sequence for you to do in the morning either with your tea or coffee or as it brews.
๐ŸŒคyou could do the whole sequence as shown working left to right side taking a few breaths per posture.
๐ŸŒปOr you can pick a few stretches and hold each one for a minute
๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธLike I say to my student in class itโ€™s your body itโ€™s your practice and so itโ€™s your choice

* Kneeling shoulder and spine stretch.
* Tabletop hover.
* Low lunge with cactus arms (The cactus arms help stretch out the shoulders and upper back while stretching hips hips double stretch ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ)
* Lifted lunge.
* Kneeling neck and spinal stretch (Also kneeling in this half kilo toes help stretch out the quadriceps as well.
* Chest stretch with hands behind back.

The wall is your best friend here while you practice. It took me so long to get this pose ! The seemingly impossible pose ( think I may have lost it during lock down too ๐Ÿ™ˆ) but keep at it.

* Hold against a wall to build the strength in shoulders.
* Expect a banana back for a little while.
* Like all yoga poses it will take time & patience.
* Practice the cartwheel fall ( see previous post )

is a backbend that stretches out the chest, abdomen and spine while strengthening the wrists, arms and shoulders.

โ€ข Upward facing dog legs are grazing the earth unlike in Bhujangasana (cobra pose) where our legs and pelvis touch the mat.

โ€ข focus on really pushing the earth away with your hands and lengthening.
