Martie began her journey into the world of birth work early starting her work as a birth and postpartum doula at 18 and spending her high school senior project apprenticing with a certified professional midwife learning about community-based midwifery care. During that time she saw firsthand the depth of support possible in an out-of-hospital setting and immidietly knew that was the path she wanted to follow. Martie is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Licenced Direct Entry Midwife in the state of Maryland. She spent 5 years training with a local Maryland midwife, learning through hands on-experience and deep relational care. Martie believes that birth is a spectrum of normal , and that every person deserves a safe, empowering birth space where they feel fully informed and supported through the entire process. Martie holds a strong personal passion for supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identifying people, with a deep commitment to helping reduce the health disparities that disproportionately affect these communities in pregnancy and birth. The early days of the postpartum period are so intimate, precious and raw. It is a time full of vulnerability, deep bonding and intense hormonal fluctuations and body changes. We believe that time should be absolutely honored and that part of our role as midwives is to help preserve the sacredness of this time for families in our care. Our care includes at least 2-3 in home postpartum visits where we sit with the people in our care, listen as they process their birth stories, care for the clinical needs of the parent/baby dyad and offer support through all of the physical and emotional needs that come up in this transformational time as one more beautiful being enters the family, the community, the world.

My favorite part of being a midwife is watching families grow and getting to see older kids become big siblings. They often come into the first appointment with their parents shy and needing to be told that they can play with the toys I have in my office for them. But by the last appointment kids burst through my doors ahead of their parents with a “Tali guess what we did this week?!” Or “Tali our baby is the size of a cantaloupe now!!” It makes my day every single time. Watching people turn into parents is one thing, but kids turn into big siblings?! Forget about it… 🥰🥹

Morning dew midwifery had a beautiful true knot this morning! Having a true knot in the umbilical cord means baby was in there doing somersaults! They are pretty uncommon so it’s a magical thing to see.
