Happy Saint Patrick's Day☘

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Patrick. Everyone has heard how Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland, but did you know that he was actually born in England? He was kidnapped and taken to Ireland as a boy. He was tasked with being a shepherd and eventually escaped and returned to England where he became a priest. Desiring to convert the pagans of Ireland, Patrick returned and was a very highly regarded and holy man who conveyed many souls to Christ.

March 15 is Laetare Sunday. Similar to when we light a rose colored candle during Advent, Laetare Sunday reminds us that we should always be mindful of the joy that Christ brings into our lives, even when we are fasting.

March is Women's History Month. We want to give thanks for our Sisters who shape the culture at Misericordia - past, future, current - and for the many female mentors and leaders who oversee the mission and ministry of Misericordia. Thank you for offering your gifts to the residents in our care!

Today the memorial of Saint Frances of Rome.

Born in 1384 to a wealthy couple, Frances felt a desire to serve God, but also remained obedient to her parents who arranged for her to be married into another wealthy family. However, she never lost her desire to care for those less fortunate and in bad health.

On one occasion, her father-in-law was angry that Frances had emptied their entire supply closet in lending aid. However, he quickly silenced his criticism when he discovered that all of the supplies were miraculously returned to their original inventory after Frances concluded her prayers.

Frances went on to found a community of oblates, who dedicate their lives to serving God without taking any religious vows.

February 27 is the memorial of Saint Gregory of Narek.

Born around the year 950 in Armenia, this Doctor of the Church wrote 95 prayer-poems that are considered to be a vital part of Armenian liturgy. His Book of Lamentations serves as a book of prayers even to this day.
