The nice thing about doing all the jobs is I’ve done them my entire career. CNA->RN->NP
Felt like I was back in the ER yesterday for an urgent dizziness visit. Likely orthostatic hypotension/dehydration with this heat.
EKG, labs, bolus of fluids
Need a pressure bag instead of my hand. They had to get back to work
Pulled the blood for labs off the IV before giving fluids
Saved patient around $1,000 dollars and time

People always ask me if direct primary care is concierge, and it’s not. Concierge practices like MDVIP charge a monthly fee, but also charge your insurance for every visit. You still have to pay a co-pay and any cost to your deductible. It says this membership pays for a wellness visit that includes screening insurance doesn’t cover. It doesn’t say what that is and I just read a wellness note on a patient who transferred that didn’t have anything different than what we do normally. Anyways, I’d say the main difference is “24/7 access”, whereas I’m off my phone at 8pm. Patients know that it’s either an emergency or they can message me but I won’t get it until the morning.

This week (Fri-Sun) I’ll be up north participating in the Trek Across Maine! It’s a 180-mile ride over 3 days to raise awareness and money for lung disease.
I became involved with the ALA after my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 53. I’m currently on the leadership board of the Maine chapter and see just how much impact this group makes on not only lung health, but all aspects of health.

Every practice is different and that’s another great thing about DPC. I don’t practice aesthetic medicine becuase it’s just not my thing. We also have amazing places nearby.

I wish I were kidding.
I checked a comprehensive metabolic panel, cholesterol panel, hemoglobinA1c, iron panel, vitaminb12, folate, and vitamin D for $59.
I looked up all the self pay prices at the local lab plus the lab draw fee. The total was $942.
Direct primary care actually saves my patients money.
