IX The Hermit
Universal Waite
published by US Games Systems, Inc.

Sometimes... well, honestly, sometimes you just need to be alone.

That's all there is to it.

To think. To plan. To ponder or try to dissect an issue without interruption or distraction. To find inside the answers you may have been exhausting yourself to find looking everyone outside yourself and getting nowhere.

This card tends to turn up at turning point in your journey, sometimes reminding you to take a breath before plunging forward into a new trajectory from the direction you'd traveled in the past. I know that was the case for me today when I made public something that had been brewing for the last few months. And The Hermit's appearance is giving me contentment with my decision.

This is also the card of going within. Rather like a retrograde period in astrology, this card reminds us to allow the noise, the 'hurly burly' around us, to quiet and instead seek the wisdom of that inner voice we all have, but which is often made smaller or even sometimes silenced altogether by self-doubt or believing the BS others try to shove onto us. It's that voice that tells you calmly, "You were never broken, you were programmed. You were never not enough, others did not know how to deal with the amazing reality of who you are." Time to give yourself permission to hear and heed that voice.

When The Hermit appears, we can be in that uncomfortable position of seeking guidance and not even feeling sure where we should look. We just know something 'ain't right.' When we question what seems to be obvious, what seems to be "known" this is a clue that there is a dichotomy somewhere, that the surface knowledge of the situation isn't truly enough in order to get to the root of the issue we wish to resolve. So, we seek our guru, our teacher, wisdom. Conversely, we may find ourselves BEING that guru, teacher or source of wisdom for others!

No matter what guise he appears to you in, note that the lantern the Hermit holds does not spread a wide beam of light: he can only see a few steps in front of him. It's a reminder: take your time and place your steps carefully as you move forward.

Namaste, y'all.

The Seven of Pentacles
Rider Waite Tarot
published by US Game Systems, Inc.

How far have I come?

How much further do I need to go?

Did I give up on my dream too soon? Or am I holding on to something that has no future?

Was this a good investment of my time, energy and/or resources?

These are the questions that come to mind when the Seven of Pentacles turns up in a reading. As Pentacles is the suit dealing with the material, third dimensional world, it wouldn't be out of the question to ask yourself these questions in direct relation to your finances, your job, or something that has required real labor on your part or investments of your resources, either physical OR mental.

All the sevens are cards of 'assessment,' in some way, related to the suits they inhabit, so it wouldn't be out of the question if you see this card and ask yourself if the work you're doing is having a sufficient return on investment! That fella seeing his abundant potential harvest is leaning prettily heavily on that hoe; he's tuckered out! Is he too tired to enjoy the reward his hard work has earned? If so, that cuts into the harvest's value, don't you think?

But since he *is*, currently, at rest in this image, it also signals a stopping point. A place in the journey where you can look at where you've been, and plan or dream of where you want to end up. Have you dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's? Is this harvest something that will yield something worthwhile for you? What's left to be done to make this harvest a reality and you can take it into the marketplace of your life?

Are you getting out of your hard work everything you'd hoped for? If not, why? I remember one year when hubby, middle daughter and I had a garden in our backyard. I should rephrase that: our backyard WAS a garden, period. LMAO! Beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes, Swiss chard, lettuce... I could go out in the evening with a big stainless steel bowl and gather our dinner salad. But one year we tried pinto beans. We only did one plant, just to see how it would work. It yielded wonderful beans, and I made THE most amazing homemade refried beans, but there wasn't much more yield than enough for a single meal. We decided that despite the fact those freakin' beans were THE most amazingly delicious thing in the world, in order for us to yield enough to make the garden space and water that plant took up worthwhile, we'd need to stop planting other vegetables and make room for more of these. And that wasn't going to work. We could easily purchase dried beans and make them work, but fresh and canned tomatoes, a staple that was INCREDIBLY important to our regular diet, would be a better use of the limited space. So, long story short, no matter how 'delicious' your yield is, is it worth the time and space it takes up in your life?

And finally, this can be the card that symbolizes the phrase "don't give up before the miracle happens." You might be impatiently waiting for the results of your hard work to crystallize and be visible. Well, m'loves, sometimes that's just the way it is. Look at where you started, and where you are NOW, and embrace the JOURNEY you've made, even if the destination hasn't yet been reached.

Namaste, y'all.

The Six of Pentacles
The Rider Waite Tarot

Who gets your resources, beloved?

To whom do you give your time? Your energy? Your love?

Where does your source of resources go each day, week or month?

When we look at the suit of pentacles, we're looking at the third dimensional world: finances, study, job or career, food, the physical world. So looking at this card, Universe is asking you to answer the question: Who gets your time, money, love, energy, resources?

When this card comes up Universe asks you to account for the expenditure.

Upright, as this card is, the imagery discusses giving and receiving; sharing the wealth; how do we handle charity? What do we consider and how do we show generosity?

When this card appears you may be asked to provide a loan, or support financially of some kind and may wonder "is this worth it?" Not an uncommon question to ask oneself in this day and age, when we are bombarded night and day with texts from entiities we've either supported in the past or which we have shown an interest in.

But perhaps it might be wise to remember the threefold law... I know, not something everyone believe in, but *I* do so it's not surprising it comes to my mind. If you give/support/back up this individual or situation, what returns to you? it is wise advice to think about those you believe you wish to support and wonder what will come back you, in some form or another?

Have you supported someone who SHOULD be standing on their own two feet? It may come back to you threefold that you will have to support them again rather than seeing them realize their need to make change in their lives.

Have you given support to someone whose claim to 'whatever' is in question? Then you may be forced to face the consequences of that support.

Has someone asked you for a loan, and you wonder if you'll ever see it paid back?

Did you give someone the benefit of the doubt... and regret it?

All are possible.

But it could just as well represent you in a position of financial ability to help others and being willing to do so. And that is an admirable trait. Others' time is making it possible to let you do what you'd hoped to accomplish. Others' resources is making it possible for you to improve the quality of life for another or others. Others' love and support give syou the emotinal 'wherewithall' to do the same, to pass it forward.

This is an interesting card in that it can play either way. The Sixes of the deck always talk about harmony in same way, shape or form, and since we're talking about pentacle, it's harmony in the physical realm: money, work, study. But harmony can be deceiving.... "anything for a quiet life"?

What it will almost always indicate is that there is financial harmony at present... money flowing in, flowing out in balance.

So the message just might be:

"Be thankful for blessings your have. And be happy to share it, with others."

Namaste, y'all.

I The Shaman, Reversed

from the Wildwood Tarot
illustrations by Will Worthington,
text by Mark Ryan and John Matthews

Today's card comes from a deck I don't often use, but when I saw it in my container, my hand reached right for it. This deck is profound, and very meaningful for those who follow the Wheel of the Year, trying to live by the seasons in rhythm with Gaia and the cycles of the earth.

In this deck, The Shaman corresponds somewhat with the Rider Waite I - The Magician, resting at the very hub of the wheel of the year, in the quarter associated with Air, in this deck Arrows. On the ground before this master magician are the tools of his craft representing the elements: a skull rattle (Air), a stone knife (Earth). a hollowed out antler cup (Water) and a tied-together bundle of burning herbs (Fire). Using intellect and desire, the Shaman makes his dreams reality and walks the dream realm. This card represents the skill to enter into the psyche of all, to 'journey'.

I believe this card is reminding us that knowledge, study, learning, and observation, are the greatest tools of any ceremonial magician... or good human being. As it is reversed, I think this message is deeply personal. Perhaps we are being called upon to see where we've been falling down on the job.

We must shove ignorance, especially willful ignorance, aside and learn all we can about our environment - the literal physical environmental or the social one in which we try to function. For to be first informed is the smartest route to take to begin decision making in a responsible, safe way.

The Shaman knows what each herb in the wood will heal... or hurt. He knows weather sign. He understands animal behavior and can gauge a deer herd's migration based upon those signs. Study assists us in survival. Deliberately refusing to learn all we can about the world around us is the fastest way to die, frankly... even if it's metaphorically. By refusing to learn and grow, becoming stagnant and lacking in expansion of our mind and goals, what are we if not 'dead'?

Through observation, the Shaman can predict the tribe's next, safest steps. This is why they come to him for answers. He USES his brain, his years of study and his observational skills to see where changes in the landscape have happened, to see where new challenges may crop up before we are having to actually deal with them head on.

And because the Shaman's quarter of the wheel hub is Air, it is through the intellect - mediation, sharing of history, study, teaching - that we can best emulate him. Think of Merlin... of the great Shamans and Druids. Think of our greatest teachers and philosophers.

You can be that energy. In fact, you MUST be that energy for yourself. This card, above all, reminds us that we hold everything we need to create the magic we desire within ourselves, every tool. BELIEVE, and it shall be so.

Namaste, y'all.

The Three of Swords
The Wise Dog Tarot, by
MJ Cullinane

This one just about crushed me.

Today, I had to face the agony of helping my son figure out how to assist his nearly 20-year-old pit bull into the hereafter. He wasn't ready. Still isn't. But the sweet old boy is.

The Sonny Man has 'done his time' as the clock with three swords depicted in the card shows, though we are still tethered to him. The grief, the anguish... all of that is there, but it is ours, not his.

That mental torment of heartbreak, of separation, feeling as though deserting someone when they need you most. Betrayal... 'we let it go too long!' and 'there must have been something MORE we could have done!'

But the bottom line is this: take nothing for granted. Take NO ONE for granted, human, animal, spiritual. It can be the pain of thinking of OURSELVES too much, rather than the pain of others. But thinking, absolutely, for this is the three of SWORDS... MENTAL anguish.

So allow this card to serve as a warning to make sure to connect with those whom you love. TELL them... ALL of them, whether with a word, a kiss, a stroke, a hug. And trust that we will meet again someday... across Rainbow Bridge.

Namaste, y'all.

At 5:08 p.m. on Sunday, February 1st, we will have a Full Moon at 13 ° Leo 13', demanding that we PAY ATTENTION to our feelings right now, that we not bury them, but instead come to terms with them.

The Moon is full when Sun, in this instance in the sign of Aquarius, opposes the Moon, in Leo. That Leo-Aquarius polarity deals with us needing to find the balance between all that is personal (Leo) and all that is impersonal (Aquarius).

Think of it this way: the Leo Full Moon asks us where we need to find that fulcrum point between romance and friendship, and between expressing ourselves in personal and impersonal ways. And the conflict between the polarity of Leo’s proud and individual stance compared with Aquarius’ independent and yet ‘team oriented’ one.

During a full moon, we must express the feelings and emotions that crop up! Two weeks ago, we experienced the Capricorn New Moon and needed to see what structures in our lives needed revisiting, what fears we needed to face, what responsibilities we might have been shirking. Now, we are having the harvest of the hard work we (hopefully!) put in in these last two weeks!

And always, as it is with Full Moons, the tension is emotional in nature. And this Full moon also highlights what is, to me, the major planetary alignment of the year: the upcoming Saturn/Neptune conjunction. They're not **exactly** lined up yet - Saturn hasn't yet shifted in Aries ... that comes later this month - but the tension between believing the illusions around you versus gettin' real is VERY much in play.

Look for ways to de-escalate emotional situations with logic... ways to set up new structures in your life that benefit more than just yourself, but your community (whether that might be home life, work environment, friendships, neighborhood, etc.). Where can you **safely** gamble, while still calculating the odds and trying to control as much of you can as possible?

That is what lovely Luna and the Sun are trying to get you to come to terms with.

What houses, which axis, are activated in your chart by this Full Moon? The areas of life that are highlighted can give you some clues as to where the work is needed most!

Namaste, y'all.

The King of Swords, Reversed
from the Robin Wood Tarot
(C) 1991 Robin Wood and Michael Short
printed by Llewellyn Publications, Minnesota

What tapes play in your head? What stories keep replaying from your past, over and over and over, world without end, amen?

"You'll never be good enough..."

"You're dreaming if you think you could ever pull that off!"

"You need work three times as hard as anyone else just to keep up, so why bother?"

When the King of Swords turns up in a reversed position, it reminds me of all the lies I've heard and those I've told myself for more than 60 years. Reluctant to stop working because, after all, without some kind of intellectual output, of what use am I? What value do I have?

The biggest lie I believed for so many years I can't even recall a time I *didn't* think it, was that I "had no emotions." Brother, was THAT one off the mark. I most certainly have emotions; I just was never told it was all right to show them. Because they were BIG emotions that no one around me either knew how to or wanted to deal with. I was taught to bury them (if I knew what was good for me, that is), and I achieved that burial so effectively that the only one I knew intimately was rage. Knew that one VERY well. Unfortunately, so did everyone around me.

Blessedly, now I know they were lies. They were coping mechanisms. They were whatever they were at the time, but they were NOT true! So, this card turning up serves to remind me that *I* write the story now. *I* write the script of my life, and I do not have to adhere to any previous dystopian sci-fi yarn that my life seemed drawn from.

And that is YOUR truth, too, dearies. You are NOT the lies you've been told, or told yourself, all these years! Lies that you're not enough... not smart enough, not wise enough, not thin enough, not rich enough, not loving enough, not... *whatever* enough. Because you ARE and always HAVE BEEN enough.

You do NOT need to make yourself smaller to fit someone else's idea of your place in the world. Make your own place; they'll adapt or not, but that's not YOUR problem.

You do NOT need to perform, hour after hour, day after day, in order to feel as though it's all right for you to take up space in this world. You have had that right since the moment you drew breath.

You ARE enough. And the King of Swords needs you to say it long, say it loud. Speak the words, so that your soul hears them.

Namaste, y'all. I love you.

Two of Cups
from the Guardians of the Night Tarot, by
MJ Cullinane, Hay House Inc.

The twos of the tarot deck - ALL of the twos - exemplify polarities; how opposites attract, how one side feeds the other. In the suit of Cups, it is that emotional connection that feeds the soul, whether it is an intimate partner, a dear friend, or someone that simply enjoys something, some hobby or art, book or television show, as much as *you* do.

When the twos show up the Universe is telling you there's someone out there you're destined to know, destined to experience so that your own love can expand and grow. I truly appreciate how Cullinane chose elephant energy to represent this card - the energy of relationships, harmony, wisdom and the heart center. Elephants, after all, form incredibly strong emotional bonds within a matriarchal family unit.

The Two of Cups turning up here signals to me that we need to find those strong familial bonds in our "pack," our tribe, our group. They needn't be blood. In fact, the family of choice might be even stronger. We need to find those people in our lives that bring out the best in us, that lift us up to be more than we think we can be on our own, not the best WE think we can be, but the best THEY think we can be. 🥰

It is also asking each of us to connect with our heart center, our heart chakra. When this card shows up, it indicates we *can* mature and have emotional intelligence. the ability to have compassion for others, to allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

Vulnerable. . . what a scary word. I know, believe me I do. But when we can allow that incredibly healing emotional state to take hold, disagreements can fade... prejudice and bigotry can disappear. And we see people as INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE... not as a party, a group or somehow a representation of what we fear.

Allow yourself that gift.

Namaste, y'all.
