Exciting news! 🎉 Thanks to the incredible generosity of Yazoo Mills, Inc., our Hanover Cafe remodel is almost complete! We were delighted to host the Eckert family this week to showcase our progress.

The kitchen has always been a place where children and families gather to share, connect, and heal together. Now, with this gift, we’ve been able to create an even more welcoming and uplifting café space for everyone who comes through our doors.

We’re nearly finished with just a few décor touches to go. We can’t wait to host an official ribbon cutting of the fully transformed Yazoo Mills Café with our community soon. Stay tuned for an invitation to see it for yourself! 💜✨

Thank you, Eckert family and Yazoo Mills, for helping us bring more comfort and joy to grieving hearts.

It’s Alumni Week in Hearts Can Heal at Olivia’s House, and we can’t WAIT to see some of our past program graduates come back to the house! It is always a joy to stay connected to the families that come through our programs, but they are also the BEST wisdom-givers when it comes to walking the path of bereavement. Thank you to our alumni for joining us, and to our current families for welcoming them into our groups. We’ll see everyone tonight!

🚨 🎙Our monthly podcast, Guess Who Died?!, dropped a new episode today on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube. 🎙 🚨 https://www.buzzsprout.com/2468793

Who died this month? Our hosts mourn the recent loss of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Michael Madsen, and Sophia Hutchins. Then, guest Whitney joins the pod to share the story of Matthew, her first-grade student who taught Whitney more through his sudden death than she ever could have taught him as his teacher. Listen as Whitney describes navigating this tragic loss, which happened not only in her second year of teaching, but also the day before 9/11/2001. Now, as a veteran teacher of 25 years, Whitney looks back at what she did right, what she wishes she knew, and how teachers in a similar situation can find hope and healing even in the face of tragedy. This week we’re talking the Tarantino films, the importance of forming relationships, and – BREAKING NEWS – we get information on a major loss while in studio.

Mark your calendars! 📅

The Women's Network of York's Shop for a Cause event returns on Saturday, November 15 with over 30 local vendors, wine tasting from OneHope Wine, and tours of WellSpan’s Mobile Mammo. Most importantly, this event supports our “Take a Breath” partner program, which affords women who’ve lost a loved one the opportunity to slow down and take a moment for themselves.

💙 Grab your friends and make it a day of fun, shopping, and giving back.

Written in the form of a gentle poem, Jessica Ells’s book “Some Babies Can’t Stay” is a beautifully written way to help young children understand the loss of an infant sibling. Children have a unique relationship to a parent’s pregnancy journey, and it’s so important that the adults in their world use the right language to help a child understand what is happening. This book is a great place to start!

The Grief and Loss Lending Library at Olivia’s House is a sight to behold! Each shelf is filled with the most unique, age-appropriate, and up-to-date resources, and it is our honor to share them with the community!

Two-thirds of our staff AND our board president Whitney spent some time this week with our lovely neighboring school, York College of Pennsylvania! On Monday, Whitney and Executive Director K.C. joined the Student Education Association’s fall meeting to share all about the mission of Olivia’s House and how we work to support teachers in our community. As an Educator of the Year finalist, Whitney was the perfect voice! Then on Wednesday, Clinical Director Julia joined YCP’s Death and Dying class as a guest lecturer to discuss both the role of Olivia’s House in the community and children’s bereavement in general. We love being connected to such a wonderful school!

We’re taking a field trip during Hearts Can Heal this week to Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. in Spring Grove for one of our favorite weeks of the program. . . Integrating our Funeral Experience!
