The big reveal of our newly renovated Yazoo Mills, Inc. Café in our Hanover center is coming soon, but in the meantime, check out this sneak peak!!! It is already so much brighter in here! The cabinets have been installed, and the new flooring has been laid. Left to do: Painting, countertops, coffee bar, appliances and bathroom (of course with Lion Wallpaper)!!!

Guess who’s in The Pod?! That’s right, it’s Teacher-of-the-Year finalist, Olivia’s House Champion, board president, and all-around amazing person: Whitney Bellomo! Whitney hopped on the mic with Jeff, Julia, and producer K.C. to share her fascinating story of how the tragic loss of a young student in her class intertwined with a national tragedy. You’ll want to make sure you hear this episode when it drops! A BIG thank you to Whitney for always using her immense wisdom to support our community!

It’s always a great day when someone reaches out to Olivia’s House wanting to help. But to have eight wonderful, enthusiastic, caring people sitting around the table, learning how to be a trained Companion in our programs. . .it was the BEST three days, ever! We are so grateful to this crew for their openness, exploration, and willingness to learn just what it means to be part of the Olivia’s House family, and we can’t wait to have them join us for their first program! It’s so important for children to see their own lived experiences in the pages of a book, and that is perfectly illustrated in Gayle Burne’s “Sometimes its Grandma and Grandpa (Not Mommy and Daddy).” Not all children live with a Mommy and a Daddy, and that’s okay! As long as there are safe, secure adults by their side, children can thrive – but it’s important to process feelings of uncertainty. And what better tool to use than a book!

The Grief and Loss Lending Library at Olivia’s House is a sight to behold! Each shelf is filled with the most unique, age-appropriate, and up-to-date resources, and it is our honor to share them with the community!

We are already one day into our 2025 Companion Training and we can’t wait to continue on into days two and three! With a packed house, this group of incoming Companions has shown up ready to learn, work, and have fun. . . which is a perfect combination at Olivia’s House. We are so grateful that our community always shows up to give back, especially when they are choosing to give with their time and hearts. Welcome to the Olivia’s House family, Companions!

The staff at Olivia’s House had an amazing time this week visiting with our friends of the Mason Dixon Chapter of ABATE of PA at our Hanover center. There was no rain (finally!) as we congregated outside watching the motorcycles roll in. During the visit, the members presented us with a generous gift of $10,000 to support the children’s programming at Olivia’s House. Wow!!! Grief is like an ocean: at first, the waves knock us off our feet over and over, but as we wade further in, we are able to find moments of calm and steadiness. That’s what Kai learns in Holly Thompson’s “One Wave at a Time” after the loss of his father. Kai finds connection in the ocean, watching the waves crash into each other endlessly, reminding him of his own bereavement. And with the connections with others in his life and to his memories, Kai finds healing after loss, and can provide hope for the reader, too!

The staff at Olivia’s House were honored to host SMPS Central PA and their amazing members for a reception Wednesday night in the Healing Garden of Hope. Olivia’s House is the proud recipient of the funds raised during SMPS's annual golf outing, and with this wonderful gift we will be able to fund a new podcast recording studio for our monthly podcast, “Guess Who Died?!” A big hug and huge thanks to the members of SMPS for going above and beyond to support our mission and the families we serve!
