The energy in Olivia’s House was off the charts last week as we welcomed our newest group of families for their first official week of Hearts Can Heal. What a night! These families showed up ready to do the work, feel the feelings, and connect with each other, so it’s perfect that our theme for Week Two is “Feel it to Heal It.” We can’t wait to see all of our amazing families and Companions again tonight!

“What ages do you serve?” This is a question we get asked often, and we always reply with this quote from the great Alan Wolfelt: “Anyone old enough to love, is old enough to grieve.” We honor even our youngest mourners, and are here to provide guidance and support to parents and children of any age. Olivia’s House is here for you.

The week is finally here! Tonight, our York grief center will be buzzing with excited (and a little nervous!) energy as we welcome our newest families to their official first week of Hearts Can Heal! It is always amazing to see parents, children, and teens make the choice to heal together, and we couldn’t be more honored to walk beside them over the next eight weeks (and beyond!). We can’t wait to see everyone tonight, including our incredible Companions!

🚨 🎙Our monthly podcast, Guess Who Died?!, dropped a new episode today on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube. 🎙 🚨

Guess who died?! Luckily, not many people this month, however playwright Tom Stoppard left this world after leaving his great mark on the world of the stage. Then, guest Jane Snyder joins us in studio to share her story of losing her 21-year-old son Justin in a car accident. Jane talks about the unique role of being a bereaved bonus parent, walks us through watching her younger son hit milestones of grief, and she tells a story about a couch that will hit close to home for anyone who has been affected by loss.

Please listen, like, and subscribe today to find out . . . who died! Link in the comments!

When loss enters our world, we might have more feelings than normal, or we might have questions about death that we don’t know how to ask. When someone dies, there are rituals to be held, and memories to be remembered. But how do we teach all of this to children? Diane Namm’s book titled “What Happens After?” helps to normalize the newness of day-to-day life after someone dies, walking parents and children through the practical parts of bereavement in a gentle way.

The Grief and Loss Lending Library at Olivia’s House is a sight to behold! Each shelf is filled with the most unique, age-appropriate, and up-to-date resources, and it is our honor to share them with the community!

Last week, Olivia’s House was generously welcomed by the New Freedom Lions Club and Mr. Pituch’s 4th grade class at Southern York Elementary School! Each year, the students in the 4th grade selects a local organization to receive a generous contribution from the “Gift from the Heart” program presented by the Lions Club. Thank you to Mr. Pituch’s class for your warm support and nomination!

The rooms are set, the lights are lit, and we are ready to welcome our newest group of families into our spring Hearts Can Heal program. But before we can begin, we must call in some of the most important members of our team: our Companions!! This week, we have the joy of meeting with our eleven amazing Companion volunteers who have committed the next ten weeks to helping hearts heal at Olivia’s House. We are so grateful for this crew and all of our volunteers that make our work so special!

Last week, Olivia’s House received an incredible surprise!!! Thanks to our generous friends at Pierson Computing Connection, Inc., and their “Thanks for Giving Initiative,” we were gifted a 75-inch Interactive Flat Panel for our Teen Room. This amazing addition allows us to enhance our children’s programming and integrate more technology into our activities. We are so grateful to Pierson for partnering with us. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
