⚠️ Effective Oct. 31, 2025, FDA will require import certification for shrimp and spices from certain regions of Indonesia due to potential contamination with Cesium-137.

This marks the first use of the import certification authority under section 801(q) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, established through the Food Safety Modernization Act.

👥 AFDO Executive Director Steven Mandernach and staff members Carrie Rigdon, Sally Flowers, and Deanna Copeland examine how small retail food businesses approach food safety and how their practices compare with larger operations.

🔎 Based on AFDO’s survey of 747 small businesses across 28 states, the study identifies key ways to strengthen public health efforts, including:

🔹 Framing inspections as collaborative, dialogue-based interventions
