YCSO Introduces new Autism Decal Program

The York County Sheriff’s Office believes that the more information first responders have when they interact with the community, the better they can meet residents’ needs.

The Autism Decal Program is a way to let emergency responders know that there may be a person with autism in a home or vehicle.

First responders know that children and adults with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction. With this knowledge, we will be better able to communicate and interact with our citizens.

The Sheriff’s Office is providing these decals free of charge to anyone in York County who wants to place them near the front door of their home or in the rear window of their car so law enforcement officers and other first responders can be aware there is an occupant with autism.

If you want to register for the program, but do not wish to affix the decal to their home may simply fill out the Autism Decal Registration Form and request zero decals. This will enable York County 911 to put the address in our dispatch system, so arriving first responders will be aware that a person with autism lives in the home. Forms will also be available at the YCSO Booth at the York Fair.
