Remembering Steven A. Warren

It is with great sadness to write that Steve Warren passed away on October 1, 2025. He was the former Administrator of York/Adams Mental Health-Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and York/Adams Drug & Alcohol Commission. In his retirement, he was recognized as “One of the most exceptional administrators who ever served in the commonwealth at the county government level”.

It was an honor to have him lead our agency for many years because he always put the people we served and the staff he managed first. The service agencies he worked with also admired and respected him. We will all miss him dearly.

The retirement article below, which was written in December 2018 by Chris Reilly, the York County Commissioner at the time, and David Turkewitz, the chair of pediatrics at York Hospital and co-medical director of WellSpan's Women and Children Services at the time, provides a really nice summary of Steve’s accomplishments during his career with the county.

Today, the York County Commissioners officially proclaimed September as Su***de Awareness & Prevention Month.

This proclamation shines a light on the importance of mental health, reducing stigma, and supporting those impacted by su***de. It is also a reminder that hope and help are always available.

🟣 If you or someone you know is struggling, dial 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline — confidential support is available 24/7.

Together, as a community, we can raise awareness, offer compassion, and prevent su***de. đź’ś

Today we were honored to attend the ribbon cutting for the new Pocket Park outside the York City Police Department.

This beautiful space is designed to be a safe and welcoming spot for the community, giving families and children a positive place to gather. 🌳💙

We’re excited to see how this park will bring people together and support the vision of York as a connected, caring community.
