A Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Saturday, Oct 18th, 2:00pm Free and Open to the Public
Location: The Nelson House, Colonial National Historical Park, Main Street, Historic Yorktown
Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Burruss, US Army (retired), recipient of the 2025 Bull Simons Award, will read the United States Declaration of Independence on the steps of the Nelson House to commemorate the Siege of Yorktown. Thomas Nelson Jr. Yorktown’s “most famous son” and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was a Patriot and devoted to the true cause of the American Revolution. It is fitting that on the anniversary of the surrender at Yorktown, these words are once again heard aloud in this setting.
Immediately following the reading, Branch Fields, a vocal artist from Williamsburg, will sing the National Anthem.
