🧩 COTA vs. OTR — What’s the Difference?

If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between a COTA and an OTR, you’re not alone 👀

Both are part of the occupational therapy dream team, but they play slightly different roles:

👩‍⚕️ OTR (Occupational Therapist, Registered)

Has a master’s or doctorate in OT
-Evaluates clients and creates the treatment plan
-Handles the “big picture” stuff — goals, assessments, and progress

🙌 COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant)

-Has an associate’s degree
-Works under the OTR’s supervision
-Helps carry out the treatment plan and keeps clients motivated!

💬 Think of it like this:
The OTR designs the roadmap 🗺️
The COTA helps you drive the car 🚗

Both are essential for helping people get back to doing the things they love ❤️
