Everyone has mental health. And sometimes we struggle with it.

Many employees want to support their colleagues, but they may not feel confident starting a conversation about mental health.

You Can Ask by NAMI is a new workplace training designed to help employees feel more comfortable talking about mental health with their coworkers.

Through this interactive, story-based course, employees learn how to understand more about mental health concerns, prepare for conversations about mental health, empathize with their colleagues, and sustain supportive conversations.

Being LGBTQ+ isnโ€™t a mental illness. However, many LGBTQ+ people experience mental health struggles linked to societal stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights.

Most LGBTQ+ individuals are incredibly resilient and will thrive in the face of adversity, with the help of supportive families, communities, and peers. One study even found that LGBTQ+ people used mental health services at 2.5 times higher rates than their heterosexual counterparts. However, they are also at particular risk for experiencing shame, fear, discrimination, and adverse and traumatic events.

Young LGBTQ+ people in rural America deserve communities where they feel safe, supported, and able to access the mental healthcare they need. But a recent The Trevor Project study shows a different reality.

Compared to LGBTQ+ youth in non-rural areas, LGBTQ+ youth in rural areas:

โžก๏ธ Are half as likely to say their communities are supportive.

โžก๏ธ Are more likely to have considered su***de.

โžก๏ธ Have less access to mental healthcare.

At Rural Minds, weโ€™re committed to raising awareness and working toward a future where LGBTQ+ young people in every rural community can thrive.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you can call or text 988 for immediate, confidential help. In addition, visit RuralMinds.org for resources.

Rural Minds Program Director Carol Anderson recently joined host Jesse Allen on American Ag Network to discuss the newly launched Farmer Mental Health Resilience Program.

Developed with the generous support of VM Agritech, the program was created by Rural Minds to provide farmers and ranchers, farm families, farm workers, and those who support them with practical, trusted mental health resources.
