I was contacted to do a remote job.
I asked all the correct questions, even had someone else read the request (an email) to be sure.
I have been an established therapist for 30 years. Im very proud of my reputation as well as the success I have managed to achieve.
They had looked me up, searched massage therapists in my area.
I looked them up. Found them on indeed. The story goes on ... it's been 2 weeks of verify, etc, ...
I put aside 2 days in July to do this 'out of office' job.
Even tho the person gave me a womans name, when i talked about the situation i kept referring to "him" / "he" .. this was a red flag for me. My intuition was talking to me.
Another red flag - they mailed me a check to pay partial in advance, the rest later. But zero correspondence came with the check - no supply list, no wardrobe specifics (i was to wear theit brand for the event).
Next red flag - did you deposit the check?
I answered truthfully: i went to the bank this morning.
"She" Arlene, assumed that was a yes.
However, when I went to the bank, I told the teller what was happening & asked her what she thought, the check looked official , everything - but the remit person we had both looked her up, doesn't exist. The teller informed me that when I cash the check they will ask for money back. It will escalate to they get annoyed or angry or desperate etc etc ..
When they believed I deposited the check. They asked for a copy of my deposit slip. I didn't answer them back. They asked again: Hello are you getting my text.
Eventually, I answered.I'm having phone issues - go back to email.
They still don't know that I have caught on to them.
So next week a wardrobe specialist will be contacting me asking for money to pay for the wardrobe that I am to wear on the massage day. Supplies will arrive ups.
This is all a very elaborate Con job attacking my business.
I am so grateful that my intuition knew enough to keep questioning, stay alert. IF ITS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - QUESTION ALL.
